Al Purkey grabs second in a row with O'Reilly MLRA at Adrian Speedway

ADRIAN, MO (May 14, 2006) - Al Purkey found his way to the front once again as he claimed his second O'Reilly MLRA win in a row at Adrian Speedway on Saturday night.

Twenty-three cars rolled off for the main event with Kingsville, MO resident David Barker leading the field to the green and jumping out to the top spot with David Turner following on his bumper for second. Several early cautions didn't allow for Barker to try and extend his lead over Turner as Purkey moved into the third position on lap 3 and took the runner up spot from Turner on Lap 4. The caution flew on lap 6 for Barker who spun handing the lead over to Purkey. Alan Vaughn threw his name into the front runner mix as he moved around Charlie Randolph for third on lap 7, but lost the spot to Bryon Allison a lap later. The front four of Purkey, Turner, Allison and Vaughn continued in the same order as they began to hit lapped traffic on lap 12. Hitting the 1/2 point of the 40 lap event saw the top four in the same order with CJ Lyle putting his machine into the fifth spot. Vaughn made a run on Allison and moved back into the third position on lap 22 as Turner was actively trying to find a way around Purkey for the top spot. While Purkey and Turner continued to battle for the front Allison made his way back around Vaughn on lap 28 and held it until lap 37 when he lost the position for one lap. Racing across the line at the finish Purkey held on for his 43rd career O'Reilly MLRA victory as Turner, Allison, Vaughn, and Lyle rounded out the top five.

Heat race wins went to Turner, Shad Badder, Allison, and Barker. The Performance Bodies Nose Piece award went to CJ Lyle while the Weld Wheels Hard Charger award was snagged by Jimmy Morris after his run from 18th to 7th at the checkered flag.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a trip to the land of the Sooner and Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, OK on Saturday, May 20.
