Larry Phillips Memorial race

LEBANON, MO. (Sept. 17, 2006) - It's the big sha-bang we've all been waiting for. The final race at I-44 Speedway this season will be the Larry Phillips Memorial Race, the 4th Annual Fall Shootout.

The two-day show, held Friday and Saturday nights, will see the largest car count to date and the largest payouts, as well. The total purse for the event will be $80,000.

The Fall Shootout will feature a MARS/UMP Late Model Challenge. UMP drivers such as UMP National points leader Randy Korte have already pre-entered for the event. MARS drivers Terry Phillips, Bill Frye and Wendell Wallace will all be on hand to try and win the coveted trophy and the $10,000 top prize.

The race is held in honor of five-time Winston Racing Series national champion, Larry Phillips, who raced over 20 years at the speedway while it was both dirt and asphalt. Phillips died of lung cancer in September of 2004.

The race has more meaning for one driver than just bragging rights or a $10,000 check: Terry Phillips will be racing in memory of his own father.

Phillips has been unable to grab a Fall Shootout victory; he came in second to two-time winning Frye in 2005. Wallace and Frye are the only drivers with their name on the Fall Shootout title.

Friday and Saturday night will both include Late Model features. The top 10 drivers in Friday night's feature will have the top 10 starting spots in the main feature on Saturday night.

In addition to Late Models will be Modifieds - $1,500 to win, All State DLRA Legends - $1,000 to win, Factory Stock - $800 to win, Super Stock - $800 to win and Bombers - $400 to win.

Friday night will be qualifying for all classes, in addition to the Late Model feature. Saturday night will include Late Model B features and all other features, including the 50-lap Late Model main feature.

Gates will open both nights at 5 p.m. with racing slated to begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Friday grandstand admission will be $10 and Saturday's admission will be $20. Tier parking admission each night will be $20. All juniors are $5 and children are always free.

This will be the second year honoring Larry Phillips. The first two Fall Shootout races were in honor of Bill Willard, the creator and long-time promoter of I-44 Speedway.
