WOW Sprint Cars Dazzle Lebanon I-44 Speedway Opener
LEBANON, MO. (April 21) -  The Winged Outlaw Warriors opened their season
Saturday night in front of a large crowd of race fans at the Lebanon I-44
Speedway. Both the Lebanon I-44 Speedway and the WOW series were kicking off
their seasons after three weeks of cancellations due to bad weather.
Fans and drivers alike were anxious for racing to begin, and before the first
lap was complete, WOW driver Rob Hartman flipped his sprint car on the front
stretch after cars stacked up on the start of the race. Once the initial wreck
was cleaned up, Gabe Maycock from Middleton, Missouri, led all twenty laps after
beating two-time defending O'Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warrior champion
Randy Martin into turn one to win his first career WOW race.
"The car was awesome tonight," said the elated Maycock after the race. Maycock
and the rest of the Winged Outlaw Warriors will return to the Lebanon I-44
Speedway on August 18.
The night of racing began with the Factory Stock feature, and Lake Mooneyham
became the first feature winner of 2007. Mooneyham's power steering gave out
late in the race, but he was able to muscle his way to the checkered flag in the
20-lap feature.
2006 track champion Brad Looney picked up wear he left off last season, and
dominated the 20-lap Late Model feature.
"I feel like we're better than ever," Looney said after the race, which saw
Larry Jones finishing 2nd ahead of Steve Rushin.
Justin Neuman won the A-Modified feature that saw an early accident that left
Don Luna's car upside down on top of Steve Martin in Turn 4 of the track.
In other action Saturday night, Shawn Nations held off Derrick Peterson in the
15 lap B-Mod feature. The 12 lap Bomber feature was a fierce battle between
three cars, but in the end, Shawn Winfrey edged out Landon Johnson and Joe
Francis in what will likely be the first of many tight races at the Lebanon I-44
Speedway.
The Lebanon I-44 Speedway hold its regular weekly show this Saturday night,
featuring the Late Models, A-Modifieds, Factory Stocks, B-Modifieds, Bombers,
Rookies and Pro-4's. Gates open at 5PM; Hot Laps at 6:45PM; and Racing starts at
7:30PM at the high banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway, off interstate exit 135.
