Hot Night for Five Dollar Friday at I-70

ODESSA, MO (May 11) It was a hot time for drivers and fans, as well as officials at I-70 Speedway – the Dirt Track. Literally, a hot night as fire crews tended to a fire on the race track, a fire in one of the restrooms and a fire in one of the race trailers in the pits.

Racing was pretty hot too, as the IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods and Sport Compacts took to the dirt at 7:30 for their hot lap sessions. Racing began promptly at 8:15 and two hours later race number three, at I-70 Speedway, for the IMCA classes was in the books.

Mike Nichols #63, lead the last lap and scored his second straight IMCA Stock Car Feature win in as many weeks. Following Mike to the checker flag was #9X, Brad Whitney, #86, Gary Foxworthy, #B7, Roger Millward and rounding out the top five was #50 Curtis Morrison.

In the IMCA SportMod class, David Willey #70 was class of the field as he made a last lap pass on veteran I-70 driver Ron Hartford, for his first SportMod Feature win of the 2007 season. Following Willey was #97, Hartford, #77, John Miller and #69, Matt Marrant.

Jessica Clemons found Victory Lane, for the second week in a row, in her #62j IMCA Sport Compact. Behind Jessica was #4, Shawn Box, #74, Jason Fogleson and unable to make the call for the A Feature was #7, David Edwards.

Starting from his fourth row inside starting position #26ss, Steve Glenn put on quite a show battling door to door, lap after lap with #22Y, Yancy Shephard. Glenn finally took the lead on lap 15 of 20 to score his third straight IMCA Modified Feature win at I-70 Speedway. Chasing Glenn was #22Y, Shephard, followed by another veteran of I-70 Speedway racing, #42, Gene Claxton. Following Claxton for fourth was #12X, George Burnett and rounding out the top five was the #7S, of Jeff Shephard.

The next event on the dirt at I-70 Speedway will be Saturday night May 12th when the Midwest Outlaw Lighting Sprints invade the 3/8th mile clay, D shaped oval. Hot Laps for the Lighting Sprints will begin at 8:00 with Heat Races starting at 9:00. The Lighting Sprint Feature will line up immediately following the Late Model Feature on the Asphalt Track.
