SMRS Midget Series Memorial Day Weekend
by: Chuck Stowe
Sallisaw, OK and Odessa, MO (May 23, 2007) With the Memorial Day Weekend fast
approaching, things are taking shape for a great weekend of
Midget Racing at I-70s' new dirt track in Odessa Mo.
This race will pay double points in the ever tight SMRS point battle. Bob Douglas of Rod End Supply has come on board as a race sponsor for the Sunday night show and will pay an extra $50 to the pole dash winner, $100 to the hard charger award in the Feature and another $100 on top to the Feature winner. Thanks Bob for this sponsorship.
We have a good motel deal at the Camelot Inn at Higginsville Mo. This is 7
miles east of the track. The rate will be $55 for a room with two double beds.
There is a free breakfast buffet with biscuits and gravy as well as a full
service restaurant. You must ask for Sheryl and mention I-70 Speedway to get
this rate. The number for the Camelot Inn is 660-584-3646. The race track has
free camping for anyone who wants. There are also camping spaces with 30 amps.,
120 V electrical services. Racing at this venue will be a unique experience as
you can see the action on both the dirt and asphalt tracks at the same time from
the dirt track grandstands. The MOLS Lightening Sprints will be running also on
both nights, with the addition of the I-70 Speedway Sprint Cars to Sunday’s
event. Pit gates open at 4:00 on Saturday with Hot Laps at 8:00 and Racing
begins at 9:00. On Sunday, Pit Gates will open at 3:00 with Hot Laps at 5:00 and
Racing at 6:00
The upcoming 2 day Memorial Day show at the I-70 Speedway Dirt Track is shaping
up to be a great one. Some early entries include current point leader Chad
McDaniel from Concordia Ks. Three time Champ Joe Boyles will be there along with
Former SMRS Champ Rick England. 2006 Rookie of the Year Russ Harper will be
present along with Mike Riley and Steve Stroud from the St.Louis area. Several
more cars are expected from the Eastern Missouri and Illinois area. Mike and
Megan Eubanks will bring three cars from the Tel/Star Racing Team with midget
veteran Gary Taylor, and outstanding rookies Matt Sherrell and Donnie Ray
Crawford in the seats. Oklahoma’s’ Randy Timms and Arkansas’ Rafe Essary will
pilot the black #5 and #6 of Dwayne McMurtrey of Choctaw Ok. Kevin Battles is
expected to be there with the Gene Pearce V-6 Chevy. Note: Make your
reservations at the Camelot Inn, as SMRS events are scheduled back in the area
on Friday, June 1st and Saturday, June 2nd. With four races in eight days all
within 35 miles of each other, this will be a fun pair of weekends for SMRS
Midget teams.
