McCormick, Holloway back-to-back winners at Lebanon I-44
Speedway
LEBANON, MO (June 9) - After two straight weekends of rain-outs, race fans at
the Lebanon I-44 Speedway witnessed an exciting night of racing, featuring two
back-to-back winners.
Brandon McCormick from Lebanon won his heat, but had to start outside third row.
Lebanon I-44 Speedway rules dictate that the previous week's feature winner can
start no better than outside third row.
McCormick moved his way through the field, and was out in front when Leroy Jones
tangled with Short Acker on Turn 1, and Jones's car flipped once, landing on its
tires. Both drivers were okay following the scary accident.
Following the caution period, Brandon McCormick was able to check out on the
restart.
"That race was awesome," McCormick said following his victory. "I was a little
nervous. There's tough competition out there," referring specifically to Larry
Jones and Burl Woods.
Jones finished runner-up for the third straight Late Model feature, getting
around Woods late in the race. Woods had one of his better runs of the 2007
season. Lake Mooneyham made his Lebanon I-44 Speedway Late Model debut Saturday
night, and came from the back to finish fourth. Mooneyham had previously found
success in the Factor Stock division.
20 cars started the A-Modified feature that saw David Hendrix work his way up
front, and dominate the high line around the Lebanon I-44 Speedway as he was
able to do in his previous victory this season. Tony Jackson, Jr., got close,
but Hendrix was able to hold him off. Jackson helps Hendrix build his engines.
In the Factory Stock feature, Jordan Holloway passed Kris Jackson on the front
stretch, just as a debris caution came out. The Monett driver attributed a well
set-up race car, and especially his Ruble Racing Engine to his strong run.
Lebanon driver Lonnie Henderson had a strong run Saturday night. He came from
the back of the field and competed for second place against Jackson, before
settling for third.
In other racing action, Josh Woody passed Jim Hayes late in the B-Mod feature
and kept the lead until the checkered flag. Woody was at Hayes bumper for much
of the race, and was waiting for the #14H to get loose on a turn.
"I think I made him make a mistake, and I got around him," said the B-Mod
feature winner, who praised Hayes for racing him clean.
Landon Johnson won his second Bomber feature of the 2007 season Saturday night
at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway, staying out ahead of Robert Reeves, Chris Darnell
and Shawn Winfrey.
Johnson emerged from his Bomber following his victory once again clad in denim.
"I ripped my racing pants, so I just stuck to jeans," said Johnson, who claimed
his other feature victory at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway in 2007 also wearing
jeans.
In the Rookie feature, Michael Warnow and Rich Reynold battled for the lead, but
in the end, Warnow proved to be the faster car Saturday night.
The USTMS Modified Series hits the high banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway this
Saturday night for a special night of racing. 40 cars are expected to run in the
Modified class, as well as the Factory Stocks, B-Mods, Bombers and Rookies. And
on Tuesday June 19, the UMP Summer National Late Models will be at Lebanon's
fastest track.
