Miller Masters Midway Mod Main/Wright Wears Purple Crown

LEBANON, Mo. (Aug 31) - After 2 weeks of Rainouts, action got back underway at the Lebanon Midway Speedway before a packed house as the track hosted the 2nd annual Purple Crown Relay For Life Event.

16 teams in Lebanon sold tickets to the racing events and competed in a fun-filled race as over $2,000 was raised in the ongoing fight against Cancer.
Qualifying heats for the Purple Crown were won by Lee Hicks, Dawn Watkins, Matt Wright and Brian Jackson while Tiffany Ell, Melissa Wilhite, Crystal West, and Adam Kimrey also advanced to the A Feature.

The 8 lap feature event was tight and kept everyone wondering the outcome as Matt Wright driving John Anthony's Enduro car pulled-off a last lap turn 4 pass to claim the Bragging rights after a 3 wide battle to take home the trophy for the Lebanon Daily Record team.

In the Racing events over 100 raceteams were battling with 2 new winners grabbing there 1st Midway Victories of the season.

The FactoryStock feature had opening night winner Troy White grab the early lead with defending champion James Ellis tucked-in behind him.White was setting a fast pace as a 5 car battle for the top spot found Bobby Ratterree,Ben Solberg and Bob Gustin joining the battle.White's night ended while leading as he went to the lowside holding off Ellis challanges as something in the front suspension broke.Ellis would claim the lead and was looking for win number 2,but with 2 laps left bobbled in turn 2 as Bob Gustin charged around to take his 1st win this season at Midway with Bobby Ratterree,Sundance Keepper,Ellis and Tim Riffle in the top 5.

The Bombers came out 24 strong to the green flag with Brandon Waters grabbing the early lead with Jack hamer following closely along with Keith Cheever.Point leader Mike Piercy grabbed control as 11th starting Dusty Rhoads closed-up quickly along with 14th starting Dean Hensler and Chris Darnell was charging from deep in the pack along with Joe Francis.Piercy and Rhoads battled for 8 laps solid with Piercy holding off the challanges as Rhoads tried the top side and Hensler and Jack Hamer swapping positions.In the final finish Piercy claimed his 6th win of the season with Rhaods,Hensler,Darnell, and Hamer in the top 5.

The A-Mod Feature had Rustin Miller jump to the early lead with point leader Jamie Ragland,Steve Muilenburg and Craig Wood battling for position.On lap 6 Ragland grabbed the top spot as Miller fell to 2nd place with Muilenburg and Wood fighting for position.As Ragland pulled away,smoke began to trail the rearend as Miller closed back-up.On lap 18 following a caution,leader Ragland fell off the pace and out of action as Miller took over the top spot with Wood,Muilenburg and Eric Hudson fighting for second.As the checkered waved,Miller claimed his 1st Midway Modified feature with Wood,Muilenburg,Hudson and Danney Atkinson completing the top 5.

A strong field of B-Mods took the green as pole Setter Steve Muilenburg grabbed the lead over point leader Jason Otto as 3 wide racing behind the leaders saw Jeff Albright Jr,Troy Young,Colt Cheevers,Tyler Brown and Jack Lancaster battling.Up front Steve Muilenburg,Otto and Albright were fighting for the top spot until Albright fell out with problems.Muilenburg would hold off the late race surge from Otto and Colt Cheevers to grab his 3rd win of the season with Jack Lancaster and Troy Young following.

The SuperStock feature saw young Dwight Neihoff grab the opening lead until lap 3 when point leader Donnie Gennings drove under the rookie driver and Ben Newell followed.Gennings and Newell battled all race long with JC Newell,Larry Pruitt and Travis Hill fighting for position.Newell tried several times to grab the lead,but Gennnigs kept it perfect to grab the win with Ben Newell,JC Newell,Pruitt and Hill in the top 5.

The 100 Lap Enduro found not only the famous Midway 3 wide start,but the track was shot with alittle water before there feature making for a different surface than expected.Joe Francis shot from his middle front row spot to take the opening lead as cars were slip sliding around.With Francis using the high groove,Stan Booth followed and Brandon Waters was running third along with Steve Shaw.On lap 5,Waters took over the lead and Shaw followed to take over second.Waters and Shaw pulled away early with Dusty Rhoads moving into 3rd place on lap 8.On lap 10,Shaw drove around Waters to lead with Waters grabbing it back in lapped traffic on lap 16 and held the lead until lap 35 when Stan Booth made a strong surge to take it over.Waters took back the lead until lap 47 when Booth grabbed it back.Shaw and Francis both had lost a lap were working back to the front as Shaw grabbed a lap back and began his charge as John Anthony began to see his number on the leader board while Booth was pulling away.Shaw's run ended on lap 63 when we was involved in a wreck along with attrition taking its toll on Dusty Rhoads,John Wagner Jr and others.On lap 88,leader Booth begn to slow-up as the leader board showed Booth,Waters,Anthony,and Francis in the money spots as Bryan Webster was starting to climb in the standing.Waters began his late race charge as Booth was having problems as both Anthony and Francis were back on the lead lap.Lap 95 would be the downfall as Anthony had a flat and Francis who was the fastest car on the slimy track hit the wall in turn 3.At the final talley,Booth grabbed the win,but failed tech inspection giving the win to Waters with as Webster falied inspection also moving Francis,Anthony and Mike Scott into the money spots.

Next week will feature kids bike races at intermission for 10 and under along with points racing in the SuperStocks,A-Mods,B-Mods,WingedSprints,FactoryStocks and Bombers.
