Brown Tops WOW Season Ender At Lebanon Midway
By Chad Buford
LEBANON, MO (Sept 21) - Making his first O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw
Warriors start in nearly five months, Toby Brown made the most of it, as he made
a late pass of Kyle Bellm to take an entertaining victory at Midway Speedway on
Friday night.
Bellm jumped out to an immediate lead followed by Curtis Boyer and Brad Graham.
Brown was flying around the high side to move from seventh to fourth on the
opening lap. The action would come to a halt with one lap complete as Terry
Hinck spun in turn one leaving Jonathan Cornell with nowhere to go. Cornell
would suffer front end damage and would not restart with Hinck being relegated
to the tail.
On the restart, Bellm would again jump out to a sizeable lead with Boyer in tow.
The action behind the lead duo was hot and heavy as Rusty Potter and Randy
Martin battled intensely for the sixth spot. The pair would run wheel to wheel
for the next couple of laps.
With three laps in the books, the action would again be stopped as Terry Gray
made contact with Brad Graham as the pair exited turn two with Gray suffering a
flat right rear tire in the process. Gray would go to the work area and restart
at the tail with new tread.
Bellm would again get a good start and was followed by Boyer, Graham, Brown,
Potter, and Martin. With five laps in the books, WOW regular Tyler Blank would
see his night end as he made contact with the backstretch wall and then rolled
to a stop in turn four.
Bellm again led on the restart as the action picked up behind him for the
runner-up spot.
Laps seven and eight would see Boyer and Brown run side by side with Boyer
edging Brown at the flagstand for the position. Then, Brown would take the spot
from Boyer a lap later as he got a good run using the high side.
With ten laps in the books, point leader Martin, who was running in the top five
at the time, would loop his car in between turns three and four. Martin would be
able to restart.
Bellm again led on the restart as he ran a great race around the bottom of the
raceway.
For the next five laps, it was Bellm and Brown with the action happening behind
the lead pair. A driver suddenly on the move was Josh Fisher, who had started
fifteenth. Fisher was flying around the high side and made his way behind Brown.
With sixteen laps in the books, it was Bellm, Brown, Fisher, Boyer, Potter, and
Eric Todd, who had moved up from his fourteenth starting spot.
Bellm would see his comfortable advantage come to an end as the yellow was
displayed for Terry Gray, who had executed a 360 inside of turn two. With the
yellow out, Gray would be sent to the pits for his second yellow of the night
after he had worked his way back to the top ten.
Bellm would again take the lead on the restart as Brown started to pressure him
up high.
A lap later, the pair would run side by side with Bellm leading at the flagstand.
Fisher also kept the lead pair in sight looking for a place to make a move.
As the lead pair hit the flagstand on lap nineteen, Brown’s pressure finally
took its toll as the Carthage, MO pilot took the lead down the frontstretch.
Bellm did not give up on the last lap as he drove very hard into turn four to
try and get the lead back. As he did, he slid up high allowing Fisher to make a
move down low to slide into second. For Brown, it was his second career WOW
victory in the Terry Brown/ABF Soda Blasting J&J. Fisher would have another
strong run to finish second in the Rusty Fisher/Ozark Barge and Dock Service
Maxim. Bellm ran a career best third in his father’s J&J. Potter would run
fourth in his Roy Cary Livestock and Machinery Maxim. Todd, who earlier in the
night won the 305 feature in his own car, would round out the top five in his
Steve Lawrence Maxim. Boyer would hold onto sixth at the finish with Lanny
Carpenter running a strong race to move up to seventh. 305 points leader J.P.
Compton would finish eighth followed by Dustin Barks and Graham.
With his thirteenth place finish, Martin would earn his third straight WOW
championship. Finishing second in the points was Fisher, who will also earn the
WOW Rookie of the Year award and who should receive very serious consideration
for national Rookie of the Year attention.
The WOW Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday November 10th at the Isle of
Capri Casino in Boonville.
In Support Action Dwight Neihoff brought the field down to take the green in the
SuperStock feature.Neihoff opened up a big lead with Ben Newell and JC Newell
battling for 2nd place as pole setter Travis Hill fell to 4th.With Neihoff
setting a fast pace,Ben Newell started closing in on lap 8 and the battle was on
with Newell trying several times to grab the lead, but young gun Neihoff held off
the charges. On lap 13,Newell was able to get his nose to the inside of Neihoff
coming out of turn 2 and grabbed the lead.Taking the white flag Neihoff pulled
to the rear quarterpanel of the leader Newell as the duo touched with Newell
holding on to record the win followed by Neihoff,JC Newell,Travis Hill and
Clinton Betts completing the top 5.

through the field along with 16th starting Park Jones. With Comer in control,Tony
Hatfield started his move forward as Justin Comer was battling hard. With 5 laps
to go a pack of 4 broke away with Dave Comer holding off repeated challanges
from Hatfield while Scott and Justin Comer swapping spots.Hatfield made some
tight moves for the lead, but Comer was able to hold-off the challanges to grab
his 2nd win of the season in winning the regional qualifier with Hatfield,Tyler
Scott,Justin Comer and Park Jones completing the top 5.

car checked out early in leading all 20 laps as 2007 Champion JP Compton made
