Hudson Holds Off Merritt To Grab Midway Mod Main/Winfrey Takes Bomber Feature

LEBANON, Mo. (June 27) - Action was fast and furious Friday Night at the Lebanon Midway Speedway with 88 race teams in the pits along with an outstanding motocross stunt driving show by team faith riders Tim Wilson and Terry Russell.

The USRA Modified feature had current Midway Point leader Eric Hudson bring the field down to the green jumping to the early lead with Danny Atkinson and Jimmy Willis close behind along with Greg Hughes.Atkinson would pull off quickly with problems as Willis began his charge to the lead.

On lap 3,Willis spun bringing out the yellow with Hudson still out in front followed by Greg Hughes and Rex Merritt.On the restart,Hudson again pulled away,but Rex Merritt stayed close behind with Hughes applying pressure.Hudson and Merritt battled back and forth as 11th starting Justin Neuman and 12th starting Jamie Ragland began there charges to the front pack.With Hudson setting a quick pace,Merritt was glued on his back bumper on the low side while Neuman was moving both high and low along with Ragland as Greg Hughes stayed a solid third.merritt tried several attempts to pass Hudson in turn 2 but Hudson would get the better bite off turn 2 and held off the challanges to grab his third win of the season with Merritt,Greg Hughes,Ragland and Neuman completing the top 5.

The Bombers again provided a big field of cars and after 4 tough heat races to set the feature field,Joe Francis and Shawn Wingfrey brought the 22 car field to the green with Francis jumping to the early lead with Shawn Winfrey and point leader Brandon Knudtson following close behind.This battle was tight with Francis leading until lap 4 when Billy Waters and last weeks winner Shawn Strong got together sending both to the back on the field.On the restart Winfrey shot ahead of the leader Francis to take control.With 2 and 3 wide racing throughout the field.Winfrey was setting a fast pace with Knudtson,Francis and Rob White battling for second place as B feature transfer driver Keith Cheever coming from 19th to move into the top 5.In the closing laps Winfrey would hold off several attempts from Knudtson to grab his first win of the season with Knudtson,White,Francis and Keith Cheever following behind.

The FactoryStock feature would see the first repeat winner of the season as point leader Tim Petty brought the field down to the green with Aaron Gustin along side.Petty would power ahead with Gustin close behind.On lap 2 the duo were even at the finish line as the yellow waved for Kris Jackson and Sundance Keeper for contact.On the restart,Gustin moved to the front with Petty close behind as a tight battle between Ben Solberg,Derek Brown and Mark Davis for position.With Gustin setting a quick pace,Petty and Brown began a battle for the runner-up spot with Brown moving into second on lap 6 as he began to close in on the leader Gustin.Gustin would keep the top spot as Brown closed in to 2 car lengths,but it would be Gustin becoming the firsr repeat winner of the season with Brown,Solberg,Petty and Sundance Keeper completing the top 5.

The SuperStock feature event would have veteran JC Newell who was celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary this past week jump to the early lead with Larry Prewett right on his heels with point leader Ben Newell closing quickly.Newell already with 1 win this season kept his car on the high-side as Prewett was working the middle groove as Ben Newell worked the low groove.Back in the pack,Dwight Neihoff was charging from his 9th starting spot along with last weeks winner Clinton Betts as they were moving forward.Up front JC wasn't to be denied tonight as Prewett tried several attempts both high and low to grab the lead and also hold off Ben Newell's challanges for position.In the clean and green 15 lap feature,JC Newell pulled away late in the race to grab his second win of the season with Prewett,Ben Newell,Travis Hill and Neihoff completing the top 5.
The B-Mod feature would see another new winner in victorylane as veteran racer Ken Dickinson brought the field to the start with points runner-up Mickey Burrell right beside him.Dickinson who has several times this season been in position to win and came up short wasn't to be denied tonight as he lead all 15 laps leaving the battles behind him in capturing his first win of the season with a tight pack for position as Steve Muilenburg,point leader Jason Otto,Burrell and last weeks winner Josh Woody completed the top 5 order.

The Legends Cars made there first trip to the Midway this season as Dave Bauer grabbed the lead early and never looked back to capture the win with Dave Comer,Park Jones,Tony Hatfield and Kaleb Copher completing the top 5.

Up next Friday night July 4th,the Midway will present a regular points show along with a special Fireworks show to celebrate the Independence Holiday Weekend as Racing will start at 8PM Sharp.
