LEBANON, MO (Sept 20) - Despite rain throughout the surrounding area, the season ending Fall Shootout was held Sat night at the I-44 Speedway with again an extra fast and racy surface as current Mars LateModel point leader Terry Phillips grabbed the $2,000 to win LateModel challange race.

After 3 very tough qualifying heats, former I-44 LateModel champion Will Vaught and Friday Night's winner Jesse Stovall brought the field down to the green with Stovall jumping to the top cushion and grabbing the lead early with Terry Phillips following quickly along with Vaught,Tony Jackson Jr,Bill Frye and Brandon McCormick.Stovall looked as if he was going to sweep the weekend double-header as Terry Phillips was keeping Stovall in his sight. With a fast paced action feature Phillips stayed close to the leader Stovall as the duo put on a clssic battle for the opening 10 laps.Going into lapped traffic,Phillips shot to the insude groove and made a bold move going through the lapped traffic to take the top spot on lap 11 as Stovall then went right back around with Phillips getting the lead on the next lap.Following a couple of quick cautions,Phillips and Stovall resumed there battle for the top spot as DLRA point leader Jeremy Payne who had motor problems in his heat and was driving LeRoy Johnson's car was trying to stay up with the lead pack.On lap 19,Will Vaught had the right rear wheel come completely off his car in turn 4 bunching the field-up as 11th starting Chris Smyser had joined the battle within the top 5.On the restart,Phillips shot to the lead again with Stovall keeping close behind as the battle for third place was worth the admission alone as Jackson Jr,Smyser,Brandon McCormick and Bill Frye were battling. The caution waved again on lap 30 for debris along with Ron McQuerry spinning as the field bunched up and Frye went to change a right rear tire.On the double file restart,Stovall would be having to go to the bottom lane with McCormick going to the outside.Phillips quickly shot to the middle groove as Stovall and McCormick quickly battled as Smyser was in the hunt also.A lap 32 caution again bunched the field up as Phillips was clearly the car to beat as Stovall and McCormick resumed the battle as Smyser,Jackson Jr and Frye were ready to battle for positions as Justin Wells had entered the picture along with Payne. On the final restart,Phillips went to the top side as Stovall and McCormick were side by side for the runner-up spot. With 1 lap to go,Stovall went back to the top groove but it was Phillips taking home the win with a fast pack following as Stovall,,McCormick,Smyser,Frye,Jackson Jr,Wells,Payne,Steve Rushin and Billy moyer Jr completed the top 5.

"Tonight it was keeping the tires colled down and even though the top was quicker we set the car up to run the middle lanes tonight".Phillips told the crowd in the winner's circle."The track was very quick and racy,Randy really did a good job this weekend in getting the track surface ready."Phillips who extended his point lead in the MARS Series is still in the championship chase for the DLRA Series also as only 4 points separated Payne,Stovall and Phillips in the standings. The Final DLRA Series race is at the LebanonMidwaySpeedway on October 3&4th with the running of the Fall Brawl.
