Phillips Nabs Midway Fall Brawl Grabs DLRA Championship

LEBANON, MO (Oct. 4) - Springfield's Terry Phillips has been a man on mission in the last month of LateModel Racing and Sat night at the LebanonMidwaySpeedway the Phillips Express kept rolling as Phillips lead all 35 laps of the DLRA Sanction LateModel feature along with capturing the first ever AllStateInsurance DLRA LateModel championship.

The Start of the Latemodel feature was a litle rough but once things got going the racing was tight with action all over the track. On the start Phillips shot to the lead from his pole position with Jeremy Payne right on his heels with outside front row starter Brandon McCormick taking to the top groove. After completing 1 lap,McCormick used a slingshot move out of turn 2 and went flying around Payne and was setting his sights on Phillips, but turn 4 proved alittle tough as McCormick spun bringing out the yellow.

On the double-file restart,Phillips again shot to the lead with Jeremy Kelley moving around Payne to grab second with Payne taking it back on the next lap.On lap 3,the yellow waved for Steve Johnson along with a 4 car group. On the restart,Phillips again shot ahead with Payne,Kelley and point contender Jesse Stovall following. With Phillips setting a quick pace, the action behind the leader provided plenty of 2 and 3 wide racing as Justin Wells,Steve Rushin,Jordan Holloway and Chris Smyser were all battling for positions.By lap 15,the leader Phillips was getting into lapped traffic as Payne was closing the gap quickly. On lap 19,Payne pulled to the outside groove and was looking to overtake the leader while Stovall had moved around Kelley and was making up ground quickly. On lap 24,the 3rd caution waved for Tony Jackson Jr as he spun in turn 4 bunching the field up and giving LeRoy Johnson the lucky dog award putting him back on the lead lap.The running order on the restart found Phillips,Payne,Stovall,Wells,Kelley,Rushin,Smyser,McCormick,Dustin Mooneyham,Jackson and Johnson still on the lead lap.On this final restart,Phillips again shot to the lead with Payne and Stovall dicing for the runner-up spot while Wells,McCormick,Rushin and Kelley were battling for positions. In the closing laps,Phillips had puled away to secure the win followed by Payne,Stovall,Wells,McCormick,Rushin,Kelley,Smyser,Dustin Mooneyham and Jackson Jr completing the top 10 as 12 of the 20 starters were on the lead lap and 18 running at the end of the race.

In FactoryStock Action, outside front row starters Jody Tillman grabbed the opening lead from pole setter Todd Cook with James Flood close behind.Tillman and Cook battled early until lap 6 when Tillman began to pull away from the pack.On lap 7,the caution waved for Sheldon Stoufer as his night finished. On the restart,Cook applied pressure along with Flood with another tight battle between Chad Smith,Troy White and a fast moving Bob Gustin. On lap 11,the yellow waved for debris as 19th starting Ben Solberg,23rd starting Kenny Carroll and 17th starter Ted Welschmeyer were coming to the front running pack.On lap 12,Flood made the move around Cook and set his sights on leader Tillman while Gustin was charging on the top groove. On lap 18 going through lapped traffic,Flood pulled even with Tillman, but Tillman opened up a 2 car length lead.In the closing laps,Flood tried several moves, but tillman hung on to grab the win with Flood,Cook,Gustin,Solberg,White,Sundance Keeper,Kenny Carroll,Smith and Tim Riffle completed the top 10 as 16 of the 23 starters were on the lead lap.

The A-Mod feature provided another tight night of racing as 2008 Midway champion Jamie Ragland took the opening lead from his pole spot with outside front row starter Tony Jackson Jr in close tow. followed by Eric Hudson,Steve Muilenburg and Danny Crane. With Green flag action,Danny Crane shot to the top groove along with Justin Neuman while leader Ragland and Jackson Jr were glued to the bottom groove.Following a lap 8 caution,Ragland had Jackson right on his bumper as Crane swung around on the top side and took over third place and was gaining on the leaders as the track was providing lots of two wide racing. With Ragland staying to the bottom groove,Jackson swung to the top side on lap 16 with Crane,Neuman and Kris Jackson following. On lap 18,Jackson nipped Ragland at the flagstand to take the lead as Ragland fought back going into turn 1.Jackson kept the car straight and again took control as Crane was working on Ragland for the second place spot as Jackson grabbed the win with Ragland,Crane,Neuman,Kris Jackson,Muilenburg,Hudson,Erik Maggard,Danny Stacy and JUstin Stoufer completing the top 10 as 13 of the 15 starters were on the lead lap.
