Stovall Charges To Springfield Raceway Modified Feature, Muilenburg In Close Sport Mod Feature.

SPRINGFIELD, MO (May 3) - Despite the heavy rain in the area, action went on Sat night at the Springfield Raceway with over 90 race teams in the pits and a super-fast quick racing surface.

In the A-Mod feature 21 cars took to the speedway with Kelby Taylor and Brandon Maggard bringing the star-studded field to the green with the top 10 cars in passing points inverted. The caution flew quickly as Steve Martin,Chase Jones and Mitch Keeter getting together alos collecting top point driver Jim Body.On the restart Taylor took the opening lead with Mickey Burrell and Maggard following. On lap 2,Burrell took the lead as Maggard,Brian Green and David Hendrix in tow.On lap 4,point leader Erik Maggard pulled in the pits with problems as the race stayed quick and fast.Brandon Maggard grabbed the lead on lap 3 and began to pick-up the already quick pace as 12th starting Jesse Stovall had moved into the top 5 and was charging quickly.Up front Maggard and Burrell were battling as Stovall began to close-up the gap om lap 7.The next 4 laps were side-by side until the leaders went through lapped traffic and Stovall shot to the lead as B.Maggard and Burrell fought hard for the runner-up spot as David Henrdix closed-up the gap also.3 time and defending champion Jackie dalton made the charge of the night moving from 19th to finish 5th as Jody Tillman also came roaring from the back after starting 20th and grabbed a top 10 finish.

The SportMods have been providing outstanding action late last season and continue that trend as twon outstanding veterans Steve Muilenburg and Wayne Graybeal brought the 20 car field to the green flag as Graybeal took the opening lead with Muilenburg right on his side with Chris Morelock, Brandon Pister,Dallas Scott and Kolt Barker following. On lap 2 Southwest Missouri standout Colt Cheevers fell out of the action after starting 8th.Graybeal and Muilenburg swapped spots back and forth until lap 5 when Muilenburg made the pass to the inside. The first yellow waved on lap 7 when  third place running Brandon Pister spun and fell out after a great run early. On the double-file restart, point leader and last weeks winner Sean Williams who started 17th after winning a B feature in the field was following Mike Streigel through traffic and coming forward. With Muilenburg starting to pull away alittle,Dallas Scott had moved into third place with Williams following him and a three wide battle for spots including Graybeal allowed Muilenburg to pull away. The final caution waved on lap 19 when Scott who had moved into second saw his chances go up in smoke with problems as he stopped in turn 4.The field was set for a 1 lap shootout on the restart as Muilenburg picked the outside lane allowing Williams to pull inside.Muilenburg got a great restart and grabbed his first win of the season with Williams, early leader Graybeal,a fast moving Streigel and Corey Pope following as 14 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap. Billy Dalton gather the extra GM Performance/Reliable Chevrolet money for being the highest finishing Crate motor.

The LegendCar feature kept everyone on their feet as Rick Nichols and Tyler Horton brought the field to the green  but it was Rob Watson grabbing the opening lead as Justin Comer had moved from eight to third place.Watson looking for his first ever Quick-Quarter victory started puuling away as Justin Comer moved into the runner-up spot on lap 5 while point leader Jay Reynolds and 10th starter Park Jones were coming quickly.during the green run,Comer closed-up the gap on Watson and on lap 9 took over the lead.On lap 12,the yellow waved bunching the field-up.On the restart,Park Jones began his charge forward and moved around Watson on lap 15 to take over second place and began to close-up on the leader Justin Comer as early leader Watson was battling Tyler Horton for third place.Heading into the final lap,Jones caught Comer and going into turn 4 heading for the checkered flag, the two leaders hooked fenders sending both up the racetrack as Watson shot to the inside grabbing the win as Horton,Rodney Baird,Paul Horton and Bill Cottrill finished in the top 5.

The StreetStock feature was all defending champion Robert High.Back behind the whell of his 33 car after driving Rex Freize's car last week,High grabbed the opening lead from his outside pole spot and never looked back in taking his first win of the season in leading all 15 laps of the feature.Rex Freize had one of his best feature finishes as he crossed the line in second as a wild finish for third place saw the final outcome going to opening night winner Tyler Schoen after LebanonMidway Champion Joe Francis and Tyrel Jones got ttogether in turn 3.Monk Barker and co-point leader Jack Hamer rounded out the top 5.

The MidWest Modz class is starting to see the count go upward early this season as last season's LateModel Champion Jeremy Manes took the opening lead with Earl Muilenburg and LegendCar graduate Kaleb Copher following. On lap 3,Copher took over the lead and never looked back in taking his first win of the season as veteran Earl Muilenburg,Bobby Gough, point leader and 14 year old JC Newell, and early leader Manes followed.
