Waterloo Victory Lane Celebrations for Boney, King, Smith and Brooks at Central Missouri Speedway on 98.5 The Bar Race Night

WARRENSBURG. MO (June 26) -  The hot days of summer and equally hot racing action returned to Central Missouri Speedway this weekend after enduring heavy rain storms the past several weekends.  Drivers and fans were keyed up and ready to continue the chase for the season championship crown on the fastest high-banked clay oval on 98.5 "The Bar" Race Night.

Up to this point in the 2010 race season the weather and the economy have provided many challenges for local race tracks and promoters, but CMS continues to produce the best racing action in the area.  Modified and ULMA Late Model drivers initiated their preparations for the 3-day Fourth of July special events weekend including a $1,500 to-win ULMA Late Model on July 3 and a $5,000 to-win Modified special feature on Sunday evening the Fourth of July at the famed high-banks in Warrensburg.  Drivers are reminded they can save money by registering early at the track or by utilizing the on-line entry forms by sending in your registration with a post-mark of no later than June 30.

Four drivers drove home on Saturday evening with their Waterloo Storage Victory Lane Products in tow.  In the B-Modified division, Brad Smith from Belton takes home his second feature win this season with John Brooks out of Warrensburg securing his second Street Stock feature celebration this year.  In the ULMA Late Model class, Bob King from Independence rolls into his first feature victory at CMS this season.  In the always exciting ‘mighty’ Modified division,  Dustin Boney from Kansas City captures the checkered flags with his fourth feature triumph at CMS and his second overall this weekend.

Even with the temperatures soaring into the low 90s, the B-Modified division had 21 drivers registered to compete in 3 heats.  Heat race number one had Ethan Isaacs crossing the finish line ahead of Nic Bennett, and  Lucas Isaacs.  In heat race two Rusty Trimble takes the win nosing out Dean Wille and Dalton Kirk.  In the final heat race, Brad Smith earned the triumph in advance of Troy Carlyle and Chris Brockway.

The feature started with Smith and Wille at the front of the field with Smith leading the early laps. Bennett and Ethan Isaacs following close behind for the top three positions.  A spin in turn four on lap three caused several cars to come to a quick stop with several leaving the track with problems.  Smith and Wille battled throughout the race for the lead until Lucas Isaacs hit the tire in turn four on lap 11 causing the second yellow to fly.  Wille stayed tight in second attempting to take the lead with side by side action but then had to leave with just a few laps remaining.

Brad Smith takes the double checkers for his second win at CMS with Nic Bennett, second followed by Carlyle, Trimble and another young gun Dalton Kirk, in fifth.

The Street Stock drivers were anxious to battle for the feature win with 12 cars checked in to compete. In heat race one, Brian Johnson grabs the win ahead of Bryce McMillin, who celebrated a birthday at the track with some friends and Chad Eickleberry.  Heat race two had the veteran John Brooks in front of Brian Cox and Mark Carter to set the starting grid.

By virtue of the top two passing points during the heat races, Johnson and Brooks take the green flag in the front row with Brooks pushing out to the early lead.  Johnson battled behind him for the top spots with Marc Carter moving into the top three.  Joey Hotmer had problems after lap one and had to leave the track with a flat tire.  Carter then passes Johnson on the high side to take the second spot on the re-start then Johnson re-takes the second position in lapped traffic on lap seven.

At the final turn with a close lead, Brooks takes his 91st career win with Johnson in second, Carter third followed by Eickleberry and Michael Mullins rounding out the top five.

In the ULMA Late Model division drivers started their preparation for their $1,500 special Fourth of July weekend feature with 19 drivers signed in to refine their skills.  In the first heat race Brett Wood claims the checkered flag with Bob King and Shawn Rayfield following in the top three.  Heat race number two had Steve Clancy winning in front of Dave Meyer and Bob Test.  In the final heat, Jon Binning takes the victory ahead of Jason Bodenhamer and Kevin Coyne.

As the green flag flew for the feature Binning and Meyer started to work their preferred lines on the track.  Meyer led the early part of the race with Binning on his tail with Wood working his way up into the top three.  On lap 11 some parts on the track caused the first yellow caution with Binning departing due to a flat tire moving Wood up into second.  Meyer then departed the track on the re-start with a mechanical problem with Wood inheriting the lead on the second re-start.  Steve Clancy then takes over with Bob King and Bodenhamer in the chase after Woods lost the lead.

On the second yellow flag with Rayfield breaking his car in turn four, Bob Test spins into him and Clancy stops on the track with a mechanical issue with his night over and he heads into the pits.  Bob King takes over the lead on this re-start until Woods leaves with a flat tire on lap 16.

At the final double checkered flag King takes his first win of the season with Bodenhamer in second, followed by Lane Ehlert from a 10th place starting position into third, Bob Test back up into fourth and Kevin Coyne completing the top five spots.

In the “Mighty” Modified division, 27 drivers were registered to refine their preparations for the Fourth of July $5,000 to-win special.  In heat race one Rick Beebe takes the checkers for his first win in front of Don Dannar and Johnnie Fennewald.  In Heat two Mickey Burrell remains in front of Richard Layne and Mark Dotson for the win.  Heat number three had Dustin Boney ahead of Jason Thompson and Terry Schultz and in the final heat of the night, Johnnie Bone Jr. from Arkansas claims the top spot over Steve Martin and Nick Pence.

In the consolation B-main feature eight drivers transferred when James McMillin from Warrensburg crosses the finish line ahead of Tim Karrick, Aaron Marrant, Bubba Harvey, Chad Staus, Steve Twenter, with Jason Bodenhamer pulling double duty in seventh and Jeremy Lile the final driver to qualify for the final A main feature.

The front row was set with Thompson and Beebe receiving the front row positions after garnering the top two points results from the heat races.  The stout field was indicative of the tight competition all night.  Early race leader Thompson started strong with Beebe leaving the track after lap one with a tire problem.  Boney then grabs the led with Dotson in the hunt, using the high-side but Thompson fights back again to regain the lead.

Boney finally works past Thompson with a high to low-side move out of turn two just after the half way point in the feature.  Dotson then set his sights on the lead with some high-side action, but Boney looking like a contender for the special feature next week hangs onto the lead.  Tonight, another $1,000 win for Dustin Boney taking the checkered flag for his fourth visit into Waterloo Victory Lane.  Thompson followed  with a strong finish in second after passing Dotson who crosses in third with Bone and Schultz completing the top five.

Join us again next weekend for the 3-day special events starting on Friday night, July 2 continuing through Saturday and Sunday evening capping off with the $5,000 to-win Tom Wilson BBQ Bowl Memorial Special.  A big Fireworks display will be a part of the show on Sunday July 4.
