WARRENSBURG, MO (July 3) - Light rain showers didn’t damper the racing action on night two of the Seventh Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl on Saturday evening with the ULMA Late Models, ‘Mighty Modifieds, and B-Modifieds at Central Missouri Speedway on the smooth high-banked clay oval. Late model drivers completed the final night in their Triple Crown Shootout event, which wrapped up on Saturday evening with a $1,500-to-Win thirty-lap main event. Modifieds started their competition for the twelve inside-row starting positions for their $5,000 to-Win scheduled event scheduled on Sunday the Fourth of July. The B-Modifieds began night one of their mini point series championship, which concludes Sunday evening along with the Street Stocks.

Twenty two ULMA Late Models drivers were signed in on night two of their annual track special event. ULMA member drivers were also competing for bragging rights on the final night of three nights of racing for the ULMA Triple Crown Shootout as well as added contingencies. The drivers competed in qualifying heat races using passing points and a scramble event to sort out the outside row starting spots for Saturday evening big-money race. Shawn Rayfield, Brett Woods and Kevin Coyne declined their starting positions from Friday evening and redrew in the pill draw which moved Zack Green, Bryan Montgomery and John Pipes into the starting grid.

The first heat race had Dustin Vance winning ahead of Brett Woods and Kevin Coyne. In heat number two, Javan Payne takes the checkers in front of Chris Lapp and Shawn Rayfield. In the 20-lap scramble event Dustin Vance leads the field to the checkers to capture the outside row starting position next Bob Test from Jefferson City, who captured the pole position on night one. Brett Wood, Javan Payne, Shawn Rayfield, Kevin Coyne, Danny Lorton, Chris Lapp, Ashlee Lancaster and Joe Bartlett, completed the remaining ten outside row starting positions for the final special feature of the night.

The thirty-lap main event started off with Test leading the early laps of the race with Bodenhamer making the mad dash from his modified and strapping into his Late Model for the feature, in second. Vance and Dave Meyer were battling for third and fourth on lap five. After several yellows in the first thirteen laps a wreck caused a mess on the front side with Jon Binning and Kevin Coyne taking the major damage. Coyne left the track with some front side damage and Binning had leave a lap latter with damage to his machine. Test maintained the lead through several other cautions until late in the race on lap 27 when Test was challenged in lapped traffic. Bodenhamer stays patient early in the feature and makes his move to the low-side to pass Test for the lead late in the race.

With the double checkers flying, Bodenhamer from Centerview captures the $1,500 top prize along with winning the three night ULMA Triple Crown challenge. Test followed close to the line in second, with Woods taking a strong third place finish. Bob King stays consistent with in fourth with Steven Clancy in fifth from a start in eleventh spot. Lane Ehlert rounds out the top six from a thirteenth place starting position. The remaining top ten includeed Dave Meyer, Chris Lapp, Joe Walkenhorst, and another strong finish with Danny Monroe in tenth place from his start in the twentieth position.

The modified drivers started their first night of qualifying with 32 drivers pre-registered to race and a total of 47 drivers in the pits for heat races using passing points, two B-Mains and a 20-lap scramble event to determine the top twelve inside row starting positions.

Heat race winners for night one included; Dustin Boney in heat one, Tommy Myer out of Minnesota in the second heat, Darren Fuqua takes heat three, Jason Bodenhamer pulling double duty captures heat number four, Joe Walker grabs heat five and Jim Moody in number six. Two B-main events produced the final four transfer spots for the scramble with Yancey Shepard and Dennis Elliott in the first B-main and Luke Driskill and Danny Charles in B-Main number two advancing into the 20-lap scramble with the remaining starting positions.

Using passing points the top 12 drivers selected a starting position for the scramble by a pill draw on the track at intermission. Luke Feeback and Dustin Boney then started on the front row in the scramble with Boney pushing into the early lead. Boney looked strong again this week as he has all season with Shad Badder moving into the second spot on lap two and Feeback hanging onto third. Many challengers moved into and out of the top twelve positions including Rick Beebe who had to leave the track with a flat tire on lap eleven after moving into the top five. Jim Moody also made some strong high-side moves into seventh before spinning out in turn four on lap sixteen. He later worked his way back up in the field to capture a starting position for the feature.

Finishing the qualifying scramble event, Dustin Boney from Kansas City crosses line in front of the field gaining the pole position for the Tom Wilson BBQ Bowl Memorial. Shad Badder looks strong with a second place finish, Darren Fuqua takes third, Joe Walker fourth and Tommy Myer, fifth. The remaining qualifiers for the BBQ Bowl include Terry Schultz, Luke Feeback, Danny Charles, Joey Lile, Tim Karrick, Jason Bodenhamer and with a fabulous run from tail back of the field into the final starting spot, Jim Moody makes the final spot to set the inside row for the Sunday night modified special.

The B-Modifieds started off their weekend in the chase for added purse money with 23 cars registered in the crowded pit area. Saturday night served as night one in the special mini points series championship, which is scheduled to conclude on Sunday evening. Extra money was laid down by promoters Earl and Susan Walls for the mini series with the top three overall special point earners going away with extra cash.

Heat races using the passing points system were contested to start off the evening's program with Nic Bennett taking his first win in heat one in front of Jeremy Lile, and Ethan Isaacs. Heat two had Troy Carlyle with heat win number three over Chris Whalen, and Owen Evinger. In the final heat, Brad Smith grabs the win over Dalton Kirk and Bronson Combs to set the final starting spots in the B-Modified feature.

In the main event, Smith and Carlyle paced the field from the start in convincing form with Smith making the move into the low-side to capture the lead. Carlyle tried to find a way around the leader early in the race with Bennett pressuring Carlyle for second. Smith was smooth at the front of the field through several early yellow flags. Smith was leading at the half-way point with Bennett second and Carlyle in third battling back an forth in the top three. On the lap twelve restart Carlyle spins his machine in turn four with several cars drawn into the ensuing problem area. A fuel cell rips off of the car driven by Owen Evinger and ends up on right side up the front side of the track finishing the night for Evinger.

In the end Smith takes the checkers for the victory with his third feature win this season and a lead on the extra pay-out for Sunday night in the mini-points competition. Bennett make a powerful run into second. Jacob Ebert comes home third with Chris Brockway from his tenth place starting position. Chris Whalen completes his best finish at CMS coming home in fifth, followed by A. J. Tice with a solid run inside the top six for her best finish this year. Paul West, Dalton Kirk, Troy Carlyle and Christie Thomason rounded out the top ten.

The Tom Wilson BBQ Bowl 40-lap special event will top off the night along with the Street Stocks and B-Modifieds will concluding their mini series championship as well as running their weekly points features.
