by: Ronnie Williams

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (July 10) - With over 70 race teams in the pits and beautiful weather, the racing action was quick and close Sat night at the Springfield Raceway as 1st time 2010 winners were the trend for the evening while Yeoman Racing Engines were sweeping the winners circle.

In the Budweiser A-Mod feature a strong field of 16 took the green flag with current point leader Mitch Keeter grabbing the early lead from his pole spot while West Plains hard charger Josh Hughes following close behind. As the pack were going three wide veteran Rob Muilenburg's car touched wheels with another as the car went airborne and down with Daniel Franklin touching as the car went down. Both drivers got to the pits safely as the action stayed green. Keeter was holding a 2 car length lead over Hughes while Nathan Mayes,Dalton ,Jody Tillman and Jason Hughes were battling. With a fast pace and Keeter leading, defending champion Dalton moved into second place on lap 6 and began his march to the front. The caution waved on lap 9 as Rocky Breliew spun in turn 3 bunching the field up.On the double file restart,Dalton picked the high groove as Keeter brought the field to green again.Keeter went downstairs as dalton used the top groove as the duo went side by side for the next 4 laps before Dalton was able to grab the lead.Behind the lead duo,Jody Tillman was using the top side and coming fast along with  Mayes, the hughes brothers and opening night winner Erik Maggard.Caution waved on lap 16 as Tillman and Josh Hughes made contact in turn 4 ending both their strong runs.On the restart,Keeter picked the low groove s Dalton brought the field to grren again.Mayes and Maggard were battling as Maggard moved to the top side and was coming quickly while Dalton moved to a 4 car length lead over Keeter.Heading to the checkered flag,Dalton grabbed his first win of the season at Springfield while Maggard nipped Keeter at the line for second place with Keeter,Mayes in his first start at Springfield and Jason Hughes completing the top 5 as 12 of the 16 starteres finished on the lead lap.

The Reliable Chevrolet GM Performance SportMod feature saw a wild event from the start. As the field took the green flag with Don Luna and Brad Moad setting the front row, points runner-up Sean Williams lost a driveshaft on the backstretch and slowed to the infield.Point leader Wayne Graybeal and springfield's Wes Long got together in turn 3 bringing out a red flag as Graybeal was out for the night and Long to the pits for repairs. On the restart,Luna jumped to the early lead with Brad moad,Gary Rodocker and Jon Yeoman Jr following closely as Long pulled out to join the field.Up front racing was tight as Luna and moad battled for the lead. The yellow waved on lap 4 as last weeks winner Eric Tinderholt bunching the field up even more.On the restart,Luna found Jon Yeoman Jr on his bumper as the duo battled. On lap 10,Yeoman took over the lead as Luna stayed along side of his car while Long was in the mix of the pack trying to get back on the lead lap.Yeoman and Luna stayed side by side for the next 10 laps as even as possible with Yeoman just ahead at the line. When the checkered flew,Yeoman took his first win of the season with Luna,Moad,Larry tindle and Billy Dalton taking the top 5.Tindle would be the top 602 GM Crate finisher taking home an extra $150 to his earnings while Dalton grabbed $100 extra and JC Morton an extra $50 as each point show $300 extra is divided up by the top Crate Motors from GM Performance and Reliable Chevrolet. The win was Yeoman's first of the season with Luna showing his best performance of the season also along with moad.

The MidWest Modz feature class has grown in both car count and talent as the field took the green with second generation driver Trevor Drake and Springfield's Tyler Chainey setting the pace.Drake would grab the opening lead with points runner-up 14 year old JC Newell,Chainey and Bobby gough following.Drake was staying on the top side while Newell was using the lower line around the excellent racing surface.Current point leader and last weeks winner Kaleb Copher who started 11th was trying to work the traffic up through the pack.Drake looking for his first ever feature win looked to have it in his sight until lap 8 when Copher worked his way up to the second place spot and charging.Caution waved on lap 10 as gough spun in turn 4.On the restart,Copher went to the low side as the duo battled side by side while Newell was staying close. On lap 12,Copher made the winning pass to record the victory as Drake,Newell,Veteran Earl Muilenburg and a fast moving Shawn Hatcher completed the top 5 as all of the field finished on the lead lap.
