by: Dan Robinson Lucas Oil MLRA PR

SPRINGFIELD, MO (September 14) - The Larry Phillips Memorial takes center stage this Saturday, September 18th at Springfield Raceway as the Lucas Oil MLRA battles the MARS Dirt Car Series Late Models in head to head action at the venerable Springfield, Missouri oval. First Ballot Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Larry Phillips is considered by most to be the greatest racer of all time in the Springfield, Missouri area and lays claim to four MLRA Wins in his illustrious career.

With just eight points separating the top 3 drivers in the Lucas Oil MLRA Points Standings, the Springfield race could have serious championship ramifications as the action happens fast and furious at the 1/4 mile Southwest Missouri oval. Oxford, Iowa's Dave Eckrich sits on top of the standings as the driver of the #58 Barry Wright Race Car holds a tiny four point lead over 6-time and defending MLRA Champion Al Purkey out of Coffeyville, Kansas. Purkey pilots a Hatfield powered Larry Shaw Race Car. Republic, Missouri fan favorite Brad Looney holds down the third spot in his GRT as he sits just four points behind Purkey. Omaha Nebraska's Joe Kosiski occupies the fourth spot in his red Ford GT 500 schemed machine. Springfield, Missouri's Terry Phillips, son of Larry the Legend rounds out the Top-5 after recently joining Scott Bloomquist as only the second Dirt Late Model Driver in history to score 100 series wins with the same series and will easily be the fan favorite to capture the win and the unique trophy that bears his father's name this Saturday.

2008 Lucas Oil MLRA Champion John Anderson is sixth in the MLRA points standings in his Greg Junghan owned MasterSbilt with Roush/Yates horsepower under the hood. Henderson, Colorado's Human Highlight Reel, Kelly Boen resides in the seventh position in points after scoring 3 wins in a row recently at McCool Junction, Nebraska and Sedalia, Missouri. Phillip's "Team Custard" Teammate Jeremy Payne is eighth in his Hatfield powered GRT followed by 2010 Rookie of the Year contender Evan Hubert driving the Lucas Cattle Company/Rockstar Energy Drink sponsored MasterSbilt. Massena, Iowa's Chris Speiker rounds out the Top-10 in points. For complete and updated Lucas Oil MLRA points standings please visit www.MLRAracing.com.
