SHIRSHEKAN, EATON, BLAIR AND WILLIAMS GRCE WINNERS CRICLE AT SFCR

FARMINGTON, MO (September 10) – On the last five dollar grandstand night for 2011, Mark Shirshekan gave the fans a thrill in the Sprint Feature and claimed his first feature win of the season. Employees form Show Me Rent To Own were on hand as well to witness a dramatic finish in the Sprint Division. Joey Montgomery came out on the break from his pole position starting spot and was being cased by Jimmy Bridgeman and Kasey Burch.

Shirshekan, Rod Crabdree and Ryan Kempin also giving chase. Montgomery pulled away from the field and the next fou raced for position. Caution came out on lap 12 for Carl Finder as he found the first turn wall. His cars broke the suspension and was finished for the night. Montgomery, Bridgeman, Burch and Shirshekan lead the group through the cone on the restart. However, track champion Jimmy Hurley was assessed a penalty for jumping out of line on the start and sent to the tail. He would recover for a sixth place finish. No change to the lienup as they took the green again. Shirshekan has now worked his way up to second by getting by Burch and Bridgeman. Coming to the white flag lap Shirshekan was in a position to go for the win. Coming through the middle of three and four traffic was a issue. Montgomery and Shirshekan both wanting the win. Shirshekan shot the gap, Montgomery went with him. Contact ensued with Montgomery slapping the wall. Shirshekan took to the checkered flag for the win. Montgomery displeased with the style of the pass, headed for the car of Shirshekan. They stopped in turn two. Neither driver did not exited their car, but a point was made. However, Montgomery was disqualified. Montgomery lead the event for 24 ¾ laps. An exciting finish to a great race on a great track. Tommy Worley, Jr, Jimmy Bridgeman, Steve Short, and Rod Crabdree complete the top five. Montgomery, Bridgeman and Crabdree are heat winners on this night.

Montgomery also claimed the dash.

Taking matters into his own hands, Matt Eaton took control of the event and led the final three laps to claim his second win of the season. The event did not get off to a clean start as the caution waved before lap one was completed. John Potts was leaking fuel on the track. Crews rectified the problem and we would get the race started. Kasey Nations would start from the pole with Matt Dotson alongside. They were in a group with Matt Eaton, Brent Thompson and Mike Abney. Lap three saw the car of Wall of Famer Tommy Worley, Sr stop in turn one with what appeared to be motor problems as smoke came out from under the hood of his machine. Same group at the front on the restart. Stayed this way till caution flew again for John Potts. This time he spun his car. Nations again took charge. Only this time Eaton was applying pressure. Thompson had jumped to third, Dotson back to fourth and Matt Dickerman making a showing in the top five. Coming through turn four Nations car seemed to drift a bit. Eaton saw this took a different line and led the final three laps for his win. Eaton got his first win last week. Brent Thompson, the 2011 Champion takes runner up honors. Nations held on for third, followed by Dotson and Dickerman for fourth and fifth. Thompson, Nations, and Eaton took heat race victories. Nations also won the dash.

Shane Blair got another win in the B-Mod Division. Starting on the front row with Michael Savage. C J Wright with his best starting spot of the season chased these two into turn one. Although crowded, Kyle Stolzer and John Bohn stayed in the mix. Blair applied the heat to Savage. Lap three saw caution for Tim Nash as his car went spinning. He was broke and out. Two laps later Brian Blair had issues with his car and brought out the final caution on Lap five. Blair was at the head of the field followed by Savage, Stolzer, Wright and Eddie Gross. This is the way they finished. However, on post race inspection, C J Wright was found to be using a illegal carburator and was disqualified. This moved Greg Swearingem to the fifth spot. Savage, Shane Blair and Swearingem won the heats.

With the points chase up for grabs in the Pure Street Division. Jimmy Farris needed to either stay in front or real close to avoid losing points to Eric Sarakas for the Championship. Sarakas started outside of Robbie Williams and took charge from the get go. Robbie Williams, Charlie Savage, Travis Goodman and Ferris also charging. The only caution for the event came out on lap 2 for Christian Devine. Sarakas took up where he left off with the field in his tire tracks. Williams was lurking in second spot and looking for a way to get around Sarakas. That opening came on lap 14. Making the pass and looking at open track, Williams hung on for the win. Sarakas finished second followed by Savage, Farris and Goodman. Willimas and Sarakas won the heats. Coming into the night Farris held a 26 point lead over Sarakas. Unofficially it has been trimmed to an 18 point advantage going into the final night next week.

Only three weeks remain for 2011. Next Saturday, September 17th will be the final points night for the season. September 24th will be our fourth annual Modified Mainia show.
