"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" continued to be the slogan Saturday night, May 13 at Moberly's 24 Raceway
by Pam Hassler

MOBERLY, Mo. (May 13, 2006) - Once again the 24 Raceway provided an awesome night of competitive racing action regardless of low gray clouds and cool temperatures which lingered through the evening. The spirits of the nice crowd of fans was not dampened however as they cheered for 100 cars and drivers "showing their stuff" on a great moist racing surface. The cars flew over a smooth, fast track. The usual flow of action allowed the completion of the races to be just before 11pm.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
*The many sponsors of the track were given much recognition and "thank you's" throughout the night.

*Wow! It was the tremendous generosity of Orscheln's Farm and Home that provided over 80 useful prizes for lucky winners in the grandstand. Among the prizes were the major prizes of a SET OF TIRES won by Monica Rindom of Moberly and a BATTERY won by Jim Dixon of Hallsville.

*Kre' ative Katering of Moberly provided Chocolate Covered Strawberries (YUM) to Jacob Miller (Madison) and Vaughn Sell (Boonville) to put to the best use for Mother's Day.

*Williams, Smith and Terry Racing also provided some nice gifts for give-aways.

*Each week, fans are given the opportunity to purchase tickets for a 50/50 Drawing. This drawing supports the Drivers' Points Fund and also gives a supportive fan a chance to "line their pocket" a little. This week's lucky $152 winner was Larry Orbin of Clarence.

*Announcement - KTGR - 1580 AM in Columbia, will begin a Race Radio Show on Saturday, June 3, at 9 am, for all the mid-Missouri racetracks and racefans!

*** 24 Raceway Family Pass*** $25 for 2 adults/3 children (6-12) grandstand admission.
Children under 6 FREE.

COMING EVENTS

May 20 - Hobby Stock Mechanics' Race (rained out on April 29) This will give the hardworking mechanics a chance to try out their skills as a driver instead of a "wrench-turner".

May 27 - Isle of Capri - Gary Scott Memorial W.O.W (Winged Outlaw Warrior) 360 Sprint Car Race. Gary Scott was a Holts Summit, MO racer who won sprint car championships around the area - Capital Speedway, Sedalia Fairgrounds, Knoxville Raceway (Iowa), and other tracks around the country. He drove for Dale and Pam Hassler for a few years in the 70's. Driving his own car in 1982, Gary was tragically killed in a sprint car accident at Knoxville Raceway. This W.O.W. race will be in remembrance of this fine young racer as his memory continues to live in the hearts of those who knew him and others who loved to watch him race.

*May 20 - The five regular classes of cars - Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, 4 cyl. Hornets, Moberly Motors B-Modifieds, and A - Modifieds will continue to entertain the crowd.

RACE RESULTS
May 13, 2006

SPORTSMANS:
This class was the "special of the evening" as 21 cars entered to race 25 laps for the big $400 prize! After a first lap yellow caution, the race continued. Pete Agee (Huntsville) in # 14 started in 7th position but soon took the lead and eventually captured the victory. But not without being challenged by some exciting action from 2nd place finisher Clinton Dale (Jacksonville) in a brand new # 12, who went both high and low closely trying to pass Agee. Butch Bailey (Novelty) in # 111(started 5th) and Jeff Creed (Cairo) in # 01 (started 10th) both made impressive moves to finish 3rd and 4th. Rounding out the top 5 was Steve Dieckmann (Centralia) in # 24. The whole race was filled with "on the edge of your seat" racing.

4-Cyl. HORNETS:
Rob Chase (Clark) in # 3 won the feature this week after starting on the outside front row captured from his heat win. He was given chase by last week's feature winner Brooke Hassler (Columbia) in # 21 who started in the 8th position and finished 2nd. Some bumping and passing action was provided by John Brown (Huntsville) in # 01 and David Lorton (Moberly) in # 24-7 as they battled Hassler to finish in 3rd and 4th place respectively. Kristi Chase (Clark) raced over the finish line for the 5th spot out of 22 cars that started the feature. Fun racing!

HOBBY STOCKS:
Mike Wolfe ( Madison) in # 11w led the charge and maintained that
lead to be victorious! For several laps positions 2, 3, and 4 displayed
side-by-side action in every turn. Clinton Dale (Jacksonville) in # 7 gave some high-low racing but had to settle for 2nd. Kevin Renzelmann (Moberly) in # 41 also provided entertainment by chasing the leaders, but Larry Krog (Clarence) in # 6 had other intentions. On the front stretch for the checkered flag Krog barely edged out Renzelmann to take the 3rd place, leaving #41 in 4th. Steve Hisle ( Liberty) in # 01 completed the top 5. Excting action!

A-MODIFIEDS:
Nineteen A-Modifieds started the competition, and after 6 yellow cautions, the race was finally captured by winner Vance Wilson (Frankford) in # 22c making this his 4th victory of the season. Even with the cautions, there was still considerable hard-pressing action throughout the competition including Curt Potter (Boonville) in # 11P who finished 2nd. Great driving skills came from Kelly Smith
((Kirksville) in
# 41 who at one time had to go to the rear but raced his way through traffic to capture 3rd place. Terry Wilson (Bowling Green) in # 15 also battled with Smith to settle for 4th. Dave Kinder (Moberly) in # 3 was also impressive with a 5th place finish.

MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODIFIEDS:
Twenty-one cars started the 15 lap race.
Bob Woodrow (Perry) in # 3 wanted this race and took it -making it his 3rd win of the season. He took an early and commanding lead and finished a 1/2 lap in front of the pack. Steve Robinson (Huntsville) in # 10 was 2nd and was challenged by 3rd place competitor Chris Leathers (Macon) in # 17. Kelly Smith (Kirksville) in # 82 and Dustin Boling (Lentner) in # 36 rounded out the 4th and 5th places in a caution-free race.
