Saturday night, May 27th, at Moberly 24 Raceway proved to be a night of "greats"
Pam Hassler - 24 Raceway

MOBERLY, Mo (May 27, 2006) - Saturday night, May 27th, at Moberly 24 Raceway proved to be a night of "greats" - great weather, great crowd of fans (around 1200), great prizes, great race track surface, great number of race cars, and especially great racing!!! The Isle of Capri from Boonville, MO was the sponsor of the Gary Scott Memorial W.O.W. (Winged Outlaw Warriors) 360 Sprint Cars and was a wonderful evening to "kick off" the Memorial Day Weekend.

THANK YOU'S!
The Army National Guard Hummer delighted the crowd by carrying the flags for the National Anthem and leading the parade lap for each division. Other representatives passed out National Guard key chains, neck chains, and flyers to fans.

Simpson Imports of Columbia kindly donated the bicycle which made 12 year old Justin Hummel of Moberly very happy.

O'Reilly Auto Parts had many prizes available for lucky winners.

Pepsi Americas and Hornet racer Brooke Hassler also donated some gifts.

WOW!!! The 50/50 Drawing became quite a treat for Cindy Cross of Moberly who took home a whopping $433!!

The W.O.W. Sprint Car Drivers surprised the fans by tossing frisbees labeled with their car number into the crowd. The fan who caught the frisbee with the winning car number on it received $100!

24 Raceway hopes you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! It was a fun time Monday morning when 24 Raceway was represented in the Columbia Memorial Day Parade! The pace car (driven by Pam and Dale Hassler) and 2 race cars (Clinton Dale's #12 Sportsman and Brooke Hassler's #21 Hornet) were adorned with American flags, checkered flags, and banners saluting the veterans and troops! Ron Lueck and Jerry and Joyce Milnes walked along greeting people and Clinton Dale's parents drove beside with their 4-wheeler (just in case!). Galen Hassler joined the group with his '65 Ford truck to represent a push truck. Kids from the racers' families also rode along. Thanks to these people!

UPCOMING EVENTS

June 3 - Classic Dwarfs and Mod-Lites will be traveling to Moberly to join the regular classes of cars.

June 10 - Hornet's Mechanics Race

Put on your calendars!
July 1 - A-Modified Firecracker "40" - a 40 lap feature race in the A-Mod Division.
ALSO - a super Fireworks display sponsored by L&J Development, Inc. from Moberly.

RACE RESULTS

HORNETS:
The 12-lap feature started with 23 cars, but after a 1st lap "mess up" on the backstretch, 20 cars restarted the race. Then again on the next 1st lap, a crash off of turn 2 caused a slight delay before the 2nd restart. After that, the race continued without incident until the competition ended with an exciting chase between winner Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia) - his second feature win of the season - and close 2nd place finisher Rob Chase (#3 Clark). Chase was the point leader coming into the night's race with a slight lead over Hassler. Dave Lorton (#24-7 Moberly), Kristi Chase (#33 Clark), and Paul Mitchell (#44x Centralia) - who started at the back of the field - battled each other for 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. Hassler had a crack in the right rear hub assembly which had to be welded after the heat race, but managed to make repairs before the feature.

HOBBY STOCKS:
After a smooth start with great racers bunched up in a pack, Larry Krog (#6 Clarence) pulled ahead and led the race to become the victor for his 2nd feature win of the season. Tim Dawson (#28 Callao) and Clinton Dale (#7
Jacksonville) displayed tremendous racing skills by sharing back and forth positions but Dawson finally took the 2nd place followed by Dale in 3rd. A "nail-biting" side-by-side 3-car battle resulted in Tom Elsen (#11 Clarence) taking 4th, Chad Walter (#23c Clarence) in 5th, and Tom Creed (#17 Moberly) in 6th. Clean race!!

SPORTSMAN:
Another 3-car battle started this side-by-side competition. Quite a lot of "cat and mouse" passing back and forth dominated this excellent race. Clinton Dale (#12 Jacksonville), Steve Dieckmann (#24 Centralia), and Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) were early challengers while Butch Bailey (#111
Novelty) waited patiently in 4th. After a big effort and close moves from all drivers Creed (#01) came out on top as the victor! Dale (#12) drove hard to finish 2nd and patience worked for Bailey (#111) to come in 3rd. Dieckmann (#24) pushed hard, but had to settle for 4th. In Creed's victory speech, he stated that he had changed engines this week which obviously proved to be a successful task. Super exhibition! And as a remembrance of a racer, and extra $100 is to go to the winner of the Sportsman class this coming weekend. Les Baker was a Sportsman driver who passed away this last winter. Some of you fans out there may remember he drove a car with the number 49 on it. His wife, Regina Baker, and daughter, Carrie Davenport, are donating the extra cash to the winner of this coming Saturday night's Sportsman feature. They will also be bringing his personal Formula Firebird that Les owned, to be used this night as the pace car.

MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODIFIEDS:
Chris Leathers (#17 Macon) joined 24 Raceway for the 2nd time this season and became a hardcharger to victory lane in the 15-lap race. Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville) and Bob Woodrow (#3 Perry) challenged each other with Tony Garner (#20 Macon) on their tail trying different tactics to move around them. They finished 2, 3, & 4 as written. Woodrow had a distributor problem on the last lap of his heat race but managed to repair it for the feature. After starting the race in the tenth spot, Gary Wilson (#11
Holliday) fought hard in bunched-up battles and captured 5th place. Leathers thanked "everyone for coming out". Drivers do appreciate the fans!

A-MODIFIEDS:
Vance Wilson (#22c Frankford) once again dominated the fast paced A-Mod race of 22 cars and succeeded for a win, making it a 6-0 perfect record. He won by 1/2 lap through lapped traffic. Jim Brittingham of Bentz GM Country has donated $100 to increase the bounty to $175 for the driver who can "de-throne" Wilson. Curt Potter (#11 Boonville) tried several grooves to close in and finally passed Kenny Mudd (#66 Winfield) and then after another lap passed Dave Holder (#7x Clarence). Potter finished 2nd, Mudd was 3rd, and Holder was 4th. Ben Ballard (#49 Sturgeon) raced well to finish 5th. Exciting race!!

W.O.W. 360 SPRINTS:
Gee! What a show! The 7th Annual Gary Scott Memorial race was packed full of fast action among 30 race cars. The first 5 competitors in 3 heat races were assured spots in the feature. The remaining challengers were able to have a 2nd chance in the B-Main where the top 5 completed the back portion of the A-Main feature field. Curtis Boyer (#72 New Haven MO) was the winner of that consolation race. The awesome 20 car A-Main was won by a confident Randy Martin (#14 California MO) who charged up from a 12th starting position. Chad Meinholdt (#69 Topeka KS) lead the race for several laps but finished 2nd after Martin passed him. The W.O.W. Hard-Charger Award was given to the 3rd place finisher Toby Brown (#61A Carthage MO) after he started in the LAST position and fought his way through the pack. Rex Combs (#4 Tipton MO) finished 4th with Brian Grimes (#6 Slater) close behind taking 5th. Columbia's Eric Schrock (#86) raced into 6th position from a 15th starting spot. Much of the racing was done on the low inside groove of the track. Nice fast action and great competition!!

Thanks for supporting 24 Raceway! Please join us each Saturday night for lots of action on the high-banked dirt oval and cheer for your favorite driver. Don't forget about the extra cash set to go to winners of the A-mod race (other than Vance Wilson), and to the Sportsman class for this week. Remember, it's Dirt Track Racing at its Best! Adult admission to the grandstand is $10 and kids (ages 6 - 12) are $5. Children ages 5 and under are always FREE. The popular Family Pass is $25 - which includes grandstand admission for 2 adults and 3 children (ages 6 - 12). Moberly 24 Raceway is located 3 miles east of Moberly, MO on Highway 24. Racing starts at 7pm with hot laps at 6:15 following a short drivers' meeting every Saturday night this racing season.
