It was July 1 - already! - and a beautiful evening!
Pam Hassler - 24 Raceway

MOBERLY, MO. (July 1, 2006) - It was July 1 - already! - and a beautiful evening! So what better way was there than to take the family to the races at Moberly's 24 Raceway. There were plenty of families present to view the considerable racing excitement and a super professional grade fireworks display to close the night.

L& J Development, Inc. deserves a tremendous "thanks" for their sponsorship of the 2nd Annual Oscar White Memorial - Special A-Mod Fircracker Forty and the fireworks that delighted the crowd. The A-Mods "slugged it out" for the top $1000 prize.

Thank you's also went to the many generous businesses and individuals who donated prizes for the fans. Family Pack Fireworks were given out by Hultz Racing and Wolfe Racing. Appreciation was announced for the National Guard 175th MP Unit from Columbia who gave away "goodies" and allowed the use of their Hummer as a Pace vehicle. Dave Kinder also shared his Hummer as another Pace vehicle.

Collin Crook, age 7, from Paris was the lucky winner of a bicycle
donated by the County Bank in Moberly. The 50/50 Drawing totaled $258.

UPCOMING EVENTS

July 8 - Weekly Racing Series, plus a Sportsman Mechanics Race!

July 15 - Weekly Racing Series, plus the high-flying W.O.W. (Winged Outlaw
Warriors) 360 Sprint Cars! They will announce a Rookie of the Year Award. Those who follow Columbia's Carl Edwards will be able to participate in an auction for "signed" model cars (Busch car and last year's Round-Up car)

RACING ACTION

HORNETS:
B-Main: Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia - Current Point Leader) had to start at the back of the pack due to an "official" decision from his Heat race. But with determination, he and Kristi Chase (#33 Clark) both charged forward to accept the top two positions which allowed them to start at the rear of the A-Main. Hassler graciously accepted the win and the trophy.

A-Main: What a race! Rob Chase (#3 Clark) was an excited winner as his wife Kristi (#33 Clark) joined him for the victory photo as they celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary. Rich Moret (#02 Cairo) fought hard to keep the 2nd position, as Brooke Hassler (#21) charged past the field after starting in the rear to give a run with Moret, but time ran out as Hassler settled for 3rd place. Billy Roberts (#11R Renick) and David Lorton (#24-7 Moberly) displayed good racing action as they finished closely for 4th and 5th. Fantastic racing!

HOBBY STOCK:
This interesting race involved considerable "trading spaces" throughout the action. There was a lot of "bunched up" racing for the first through seventh places, but Kevin Renzelmann (#41 Moberly) proved to be the strongest as he captured the victory. Mike Wolfe (#11W Madison) and Tim Dawson (#28 Callao) battled through the competition with Larry Krog (#6
Clarence) close behind. Unfortunately Wolfe was disqualified during tech inspection which allowed Dawson to finish 2nd and Krog in 3rd. Tom Creed (#17 Moberly) and Chase Breid (#12 Madison) were also disqualified due in tech. This opened up 4th place to Tom Elsen (#11 Clarence) who earlier lost a tire and worked his way back and 5th to Steve Hisle (#01 Liberty). Good competition!

SPORTSMAN:
Great competition in this 12 lap race showed skilled drivers using both the high and low grooves to provide side by side action. Jeff Creed (#01
Cairo) narrowly held off Pete Agee (#14 Huntsville) for a close finish. Butch Bailey (#111 Novelty) was "in the hunt" also with Kyle Chinn (#81
Clarence) nearby as they finished 3rd and 4th. Creed stated that there were "a lot of fast cars" and that it was "getting hard to win" as he accepted the first place trophy.

MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODS:
Because Gary Wilson (#11 Holliday) had recent surgery, he generously trusted David Holder (Clarence) to "take over the wheel" who gave a "whale of a run" to win this exciting race. Tony Garner (#20 Macon) showed great effort by closing in oftern but accepted the 2nd position. Kevin Embree ( #61 Pais) and Chuck Melloway (#74x Hallsville) both battled hard to join the leaders but settled in at 3rd and 4th. Steve Robinson (#10 Huntsville) also was a good contender who finished 5th.

A-MODIFIEDS:
Twenty-four cars arrived for the Firecracker Forty and battled for the $1000 prize money! And battle it was!
CONSY: Side by side action started this qualification race. Brad Pfeiffer (#32 Columbia) jumped way into the lead to win but Matt Johnson (#5J Archie) was on his tail to finish 2nd. Chris Leathers (#17 Macon), Keith Fisher (#68 Fulton) charged to gain the 3rd and 4th places. Bill Baker (#03 Hannibal) and Darin Boling (#8 Clarence) finished 5th and 6th. All six cars were allowed to start at the rear of the A-Main.

A-Main: The BIG race started with a yellow on the first lap, but on the restart Michael Long (#18 Quincy) took charge into the lead. A big crash on Turn 1 between Ben Ballard (#49 Sturgeon) and David Melloway (#21M
Hallsville) caused a slight delay as they cleared the track and allowed medical personnel to attend to both drivers. Melloway was transported by ambulance and was released later with a bruised kidney, but both drivers were generally okay - thank goodness, as it was a HARD hit! As the race resumed, there was a lot of hard-fighting action as Vance Wilson (#22c
Frankford) and Long provided several lead changes. Later Long had to retire to the pits which gave way for Curt Potter (#11P Boonville) and Jon Melloway (#20M Hallsville) to run for the money. Before the "Green, White, Checkered", the cars were required to stop on the front stretch to refuel before action began again for the finish of the 40-lap race. Melloway was so excited when he took the 3rd place that he pulled a little spin in front
of the grandstand! He wanted that trophy and 3rd place $$$$! Potter
accepted 2nd saying the "second isn't bad, but I shoulda' had him"! For his 99th career win, Vance Wilson brought home the $1000 check and trophy! He thanked his sponsors. Great fast racing which was fun to watch! Congratulations! Matt Dotson (#88D Sturgeon) and Steve Potter (#1P Boonville) also were hard-chargers and great competitors as they finished 4th and 5th.
