A very hot, sticky night greeted the fans and raceteams that came to 24 Raceway in Moberly, MO
by: Pam Hassler - 24 Raceway

MOBERLY, MO. (July 29, 2006) - The crowd at Moberly's 24 Raceway once again endured the hot weather to enjoy some tremendous racing action Sat. night July 29. After the sun hid behind the grandstand, which allowed lots of shade, it was certainly bearable. That's July in Mid-Missouri!!!

The track chaplain, D.B. Riley led the fans in prayer for safety of those in the armed Forces and for the racers and fans. The National Anthem was sung by Kathy Dye. All the track sponsors and wrecker services were given their due gratitude.

Last week's A-Mod feature winner, David Holder (7x Clarence) signed his trophy and lucky Jr. Fan Club winner, 10 year old Katelain Evans of Jacksonville got to take it home!

Kirksville's Walt Harris was pleased to take the $110 he received from the 50/50 Drawing.

Tony Garner Racing Team donated the bicycle, won by 9 year old Sammy Woodrow of Perry. Garner (#20 B-Mod - Macon) was the feature winner on July 22 and made a repeat performance on this night - July 29. Sammy is the daughter of Bob Woodrow (#3 B-Mod - Perry), another successful driver.

Danny Lorton (Moberly's Late Model driver) was interviewed and asked the fans to continue to log on to racinforalivin.com (no "g's") and vote for him to be a finalist for the chance to race in the 2007 Busch Series.

RACE RESULTS

HOBBY:
Twelve cars began the 'heads up' start in the 12-lap feature. Point
leader Larry Krog (#6 Clarence) successfully took advantage of the high and low grooves to earn his 4th win of the season to tie wins with 2nd place finisher Mike Wolfe (#11w Madison). Wolfe made several attempts to pass, but eventually had to coast across the line after smoke took over his engine. Scrambler Kevin Renzelmann (#41 Moberly) powered over the line for third. Clinton Dale (#7 Jacksonville) provided some action when he got a little high and climbed the back wall and unfortunately retired to the pits. Chad Walter (#23c Clarence) charged up from the rear to capture 4th with Alan Hultz (#51 Madison) on his tail. Before thanking his sponsors and family, Krog said it was a 'good race', 'It's hot out there', and 'He's (Wolfe - 11w) tough to beat'. Great racing chases!

HORNET:
The roll of the dice allowed the first 2 rows to be inverted in the 12-lap feature. At the drop of the green, eighteen cars motored into turn one with Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia) leading the pack. David Lorton (#24/7 Moberly) managed to close up the gap a few times in 2nd place, but Hassler eventually returned to familiar territory as he claimed his 7th A-feature win of the season at 24 Raceway, along with a B-feature win. Kristi Chase (#33 Clark) skillfully saved a near-spin to impressively charge into 3rd place with husband Rob Chase (#3 Clark) following in 4th. John Brown (#01 Huntsville) rounded out the top 5. Hassler added to his point lead and thanked his sponsors, parents and brothers, and congratulated Chad Hickam (#9H Hallsville) on his Friday night win at Callaway Raceway. Good racing!

MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODS:
This 15-lap feature started 18 B-Mods that all opened up in pursuit of the checkered flag. Chuck Melloway (#74x Hallsville) thundered into the lead for several laps until Tony Garner (#20 Macon) battled past others and Melloway to celebrate his 2nd win in a row, leaving Melloway the 2nd spot. B-Mod rookie, Craig Spegal (#7s New London) exhibited a superb show as he collected his best finish of 3rd place. Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville) and season points leader Bob Woodrow (#3 Perry) battled side by side toward the race's end to finish 4th and 5th. Garner was excited to say 'it's kinda' wild' for 'going this long, then get 2 in a row'. To earn the points, the winner has 'gotta' be consistent'. Fine racing action!

SPORTSMAN:
The 12-lap feature started 15 cars. A 'whoops' occurred after an early yellow when Kyle Chinn's car (#81 Clarence) grabbed the orange single-file restart cone. When the damaged cone was retrieved, the race began, but without Pete Agee (#14 Huntsville) in the lead due to an infraction. Tyler McClure (#73m Floris, IA) returned to the 24 Raceway and captured another win. Several small-pack battles gave the fans an opportunity to cheer for their favorite drivers. Points leader Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) worked hard as he cruised into 2nd before Butch Bailey (#111 Novelty), who took 3rd. Clinton Dale (#12 Jacksonville) had better luck in this class as he nosed into 4th in front of Derrick Agee (#14Jr. Huntsville). McClure stated after his victory that Moberly's 24 Raceway is a 'fun track'! Good racing
challenges!

A-MODS:
The 'straight-up' start of 15 cars in the 25-lap Main Event thrilled the crowd with speed and action that continued throughtout the race. Vance Wilson (#22c Frankford) continued his celebration of another victory as he won for the 11th time. Curt Potter (#11 Boonville) exhibited a great effort but was just a little short finishing in 2nd for yet the 8th time this season. David Holder (#7x Clarence) and Steve Potter (#1P Boonville) were paired up in a 3rd place competition with Holder edging ahead. Another duel was for the 5th spot between Kevin Blackburn (#26K Fulton) who passed the line ahead of Ron Gough (#0 Monroe City). Wilson complimented Potter (11P) saying 'he really held the race'. Lots of close racing!

B-MOD MECHANICS' RACE:
The final race of the evening gave mechanics the chance to take a turn at the wheel. After an early spin, a restart gave Richie Berghager (New London, the stepson driving Craig Spegal's 7s) a chance to charge past Jerry Taylor (Moberly- in Steve Robinson's #10). Berghager went on to win the trophy! Congratulations! Marty Woodrow (Fairbanks, Alaska - driving his brother Bob's #3) unfortunately didn't follow his brother's and father's two
rules: #1 Don't tear up the car and #2 Don't get passed by a gal. "Whoops" - on both rules. (Always thought it was: #1 Go fast and #2 Turn
left,,,,,,)
