MOBERLY, MO. (SEPT. 9, 2006) - "Dirt track racing at its best", the slogan of Moberly's 24 Raceway, held true this past weekend, Sat. Sept. 9. The 96 high-banked dirt track racers continued to entertain the spectators with some really good competition.

Throughout the year many individuals and corporations have sponsored various races. This week it was a privilege to have MHC Kenworth of Columbia as a sponsor once again for the B-Modified Championship Shootout. On site was a beautiful, BIG, red 2007 Kenworth Tractor for everyone to admire. They also provided several gifts for prizes. Commerce Bank of Moberly and Line X Spray-on Truck Bedliners of Columbia will be sponsors for the special event next week Sat. Sept. 16. Thank you to all of these sponsors!

The National Guard from Moberly and Columbia brought representatives from DET 12175th MP Co. and the 175th MP Battalian. Sgt. 1st Class Dan Stith, who is retiring at the end of the year, was driving the National Guard Pace Hummer. It's always nice to have them visit the track.

Giveaways - by Rob and Kristi Chase, JP Photography, Hassler Racing, and many others. Hartgrove Bulldozing of Clarence donated a bicycle again this week which was won by 10 year old Tyler Worthingron of Moberly. Higbee's Troy Overfelt was the lucky recipient of $128 from the 50/50 Drawing.
Thank you also goes to Autumn Rose of Jacksonville who was the trophy girl. Mrs. Tammy Old nicely sang the National Anthem after track Chaplain CB Riley offered his blessings.

The Dream Factory will receive $192.22 generously donated by the fans of 24 Raceway. Kristi Chase, Kelly Smith, and Kenny Edwards kindly took their time during intermission to pass their helmets - THANKS!

RACE RESULTS

HOBBY:
Tim Dawson (#28 Callao) smacked his hands onto his roof with EXCITEMENT as he captured his first feature win of the season! He had a great run with several challengers who made good moves throughout. Kevin Renzelmann (#41 Moberly) and Alan Hultz (#51 Madison) both drove hard for most of the race (10 of the 12 laps) until they had to retire to the pits. Clinton Dale (#7 Jacksonville) raced into 2nd place. Mark Forrester (#10 Columbia) also was moving up but dropped out on the 11th lap which allowed Chris Strain (#83 Higbee) to score the 3rd spot followed by Jeff Hamlin (#87 Edina) in 4th. Jessie Buss (#12B Quincy, IL) motored into 5th. Exciting race with good competitors!

HORNETS:
Rich Moret (#02 Cairo) started on the pole and remained glued to that spot to visit victory lane again this week. He was tailed by Jerry Warren (#03 Moberly) who drifted into 2nd - but was later disqualified during tech inspection for not having right side brakes. This allowed Rob Chase (#3 Clark) to move into 2nd after he gained momentum to pass Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia) who then finished 3rd. Kristi Chase snared 4th place with Tanner Richards (#3R Boonville) who rounded out the
top 5. Good racing!

A-MODS:
Curt Potter (#11P Boonville) dominated the 25 lap feature from the "drop of the green" to "pocketing of the bucks" in victory lane. Ron Gough (#0 Monroe City) charged skillfully past a few cars on a restart to grab the 2nd spot. David Holder (Clarence) driving Bill Glawson's car #4G was a front runner who powered the line into 3rd place. Challenging closely was Mike Hoover (#71 Mexico) who settled for 4th position. Another close racer who topped off the 5th place was Steve Potter (#1P Boonville). All the racers in the feature were super competitors!

SPORTSMAN:
This 12 lap feature continued to be an exciting race this week. Pete Agee (Huntsville) shared his orange #14 Chevy to be driven by Randy Mauzey (Madison). Mauzey took this opportunity to race to the checkered flag win! It was quite an exciting competition between Mauzey and Ryan Petersheim (#6 Sturgeon) as they powered side by side for several laps until an unfortunate front stretch spin caused an unhappy Petersheim to restart at the rear only to become a victim of a later Turn 4 crash. Another side by side challenge occurred between 2nd place finisher Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) and 3rd place racer Tim Eravi (#3 Moberly). Alan Bergfield (#73 Harrisburg) scored the 4th position followed in 5th by Derrick Agee (#14jr Huntsville). Good job racing!

MHC KENWORTH Sponsored B-MODS:
The special feature event of the evening began with the top 4 qualifiers from each of the 4 Heat races and the top 2 finishers from each of the pair of Consy races. The Heats and Consys were filled with lots of action which displayed several exchanges to capture positions for the 20 spots available for the feature. Close racing dominated the event for 10 laps until "dreaded raindrops" made a slick and dangerous track surface causing a pause in the action. The drivers stopped on the grass area of the front stretch while a decision was made to suspend the evening's 30 lap race. This race will resume next Saturday, Sept 16 to determine the big winner of the $1000 prize money. At the rain delay, Mike McCarty (#96 Moberly) was in the lead followed by Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville). Jeff Waterman (#71 Quincy, IL), Chuck Melloway (#74x Hallsville), and Jim Gillenwater (#10x Keokuk, IA) were challenging hard in 3rd, 4th, and 5th when rain fell harder. Return next week when a winner will accept the bucks and trophy at the completion of the final 20 laps of the Moberly Motors B-Modified Championship Shootout, brought to you by MHC Kenworth of Columbia. The consensus of scoring and management is to restart the race on lap 11 with all 20 qualifiers resuming the position held at the time of the weather-induced caution laps. Thus the the line-up of the racecars, frozen when the race was halted on lap 10, will kick off with Moberly's Mike McCarty leading the way for the run to the planned 10 minute pit stop for fuel and adjustments to the top ten B-mods scheduled on lap 20. Then a redraw for the top ten spots will take place by the drivers with these 10 cars going full tilt for the last ten lap dash and the $1000 win!

Please visit Moberly's 24 Raceway located 3 miles east of Moberly on Highway 24! Next week will prove to be another night of exciting competitions with the added B-Mod race and the Winged Outlaw Warrior Sprint Cars, sponsored by Commerce Bank and Line X, along with the regular Fall Racing Series of the regular five classes of A-mods, B-mods, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and Hornets.

Gates will open at 4:00pm with Hot Laps at 6:15pm and Racing Action at 7:00pm.
Grandstand prices will be $15 for adults, $5 for children (ages 6-12), and the popular Family Pass will be $35 for 2 adults and 3 children (ages 6-12). Children 5 and under are FREE! Pit passes will be $22.
