Thompson, Hudson, Reicks victorious at Speed Bowl
By Mike Hughes

RED CLOUD, NE (April 21, 2006) - It was another beautiful evening for racing action at The Speed Bowl in Red Cloud, NE, Friday evening, April 21, as 65 race teams checked in for action.

Superior’s Jon Thompson made his way to victory lane in the IMCA Modified A-feature. After leader Darrick Klima spun on lap 12 after being passed by Thompson, Thompson then pulled away on the restart. The red flag came out on lap 19 when Justin Basart went up and over the guardrail in turn 1. Basart escaped unharmed but was finished for the race. This set up a green-white-checkered finish and Thompson was able to hang on for the win. Lonnie Schriner finished second, trailed by Joby Hanson, Tim Watts and Dusty Blake. Larry Sutton, Thompson, Brian Calhoon, and Blake all won heat races, while Carl Hund Jr. led the field to the checkers in the B-main.

Josh Hudson of Kensington, KS, led from green to checkered in the 20-lap IMCA Stock Car feature. It took 3 tries to get the opening lap in, and once it was completed, the rest of the race went caution free. Hudson built up a big lead, but late in the race Cory Struckhoff and heat one winner Troy Attwood closed ground but had to settle for second and third. Matt Streit and Brett Behrends rounded out the top five. Hudson won the other heat race.

Hometown driver Zach Reicks led wire-to-wire in the 15-lap caution free IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Wade Wagenblast closed in late on the leader but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Rhett Kingsbury finished third, followed by Jim Buss and Jamie Reiman. Reicks and Buss were victorious in the two heat races.

Adam Sidlo & E.J. Kothe of Hastings, NE, took the lead on lap 3 of the Cruiser feature from heat race winners Joe & Jacob Krone and held on to the winner’s circle. Josh & Vic Jacobitz finished third.

Racing returns to the 3/8-mile oval Friday night, April 28. The green flag flies at 8:00 p.m.
