Faster Late Models, Big Sprint Cars, and 2 Modified Specials
Season Dawson County Raceway 2007 Schedule
by Allen Wissmann and Darin Racek
LEXINGTON, NE. (March 17, 2007) - Allen Wissmann, promoter for Dawson County
Raceway located in Lexington, Nebraska, has done some things to the schedule
that he feels will make the DCR 2007 racing season memorable and exciting.. The
2007 racing season will see 13 nights of racing, weather permitting, which
includes four special events. The fast 3/8-mile oval will again feature the
Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Hobby Stocks, all sanctioned by the International
Motor Contest Association (IMCA). On a limited schedule, DCR will host
Mini-Sprints and Super Late Models. The four specials for the season will be
highlighted by two 305 Sprint car visits and two Modified specials.
Dawson County Raceway will begin the season with a test and tune day on April
29. The season opener will be on Sunday night, May 6, and it will be the first
of two Sprint Car specials. The 305 Sprint Cars of the United Rebel Sprint
Series (URSS) will make their first of two appearances on opening night, joining
the three IMCA classes. They make their second appearance on August 5. Although
only in it’s second full season, the URSS has 25 nights on it’s 2007 schedule,
as it is one of the fastest growing Sprint Car associations in the region. The
URSS is promoted by Rick Salem out of Oberlin, Kansas.
DCR will be hosting two Modified specials during the summer. The first special
will be on June 10, when the IMCA sanctioned Blood, Sweat, and Tears (BST)
traveling Modified series out of Colorado will pay a visit. Several Colorado
(and Kansas) drivers will be on hand that night to challenge the local drivers
for some serious competition and bragging rights. The 1st Annual Platte River
Valley IMCA Modified Shootout will be held July 22, the night after the big
Sandhills Shootout being held in North Platte. Wissmann will entice those
attending the Sandhills Shootout and any other IMCA Modified driver to test
their skills on Dawson County Raceway, with the winner receiving $1,000.
On regular racing nights, Wissmann will rotate the Mini-Sprint and Super Late
Model classes. Although the Super Late Models will not be sanctioned, the
specifications on the cars will be based on the rules of the series of the
Colorado Late Model Association and the National Championship Racing
Association. They should have the promise to get around the track faster than
the Grand National Late Models that ran last year. The Mini-Sprint drivers will
pretty much follow the rules they ran last year, and again put on a show on the
front stretch.
The cars and trailers will again pit south and west of the grandstands, with the
exception of the Dawson County Fair race, which is scheduled for August 19. The
racing season will conclude on August 26 for Championship Night, which is the
final points night. Season ending awards will be presented at a banquet on a
date and at a place to be determined.
Grandstand admission prices for the 2007 season will be $9 for adults and $4 for
children 6 - 12 on regular nights of racing. During the four specials,
grandstand admission prices will be $12 for adults and $5 for children 6 - 12.
Children 5 and under will be admitted free for both regular nights and specials.
Pit passes will be $20 on the regular nights and $25 during the specials.
Drivers may download pre-registration forms and track rules on the Dawson County
Fair website www.dawsoncountyfair.com and go to the Stock Car Races section. For
more information on the racing season, contact Allen at 308-472-3214.
On all race nights, the gates will open at 5 PM, Central Time, with racing
starting at 7 PM, Central Time. Dawson County Raceway is on the Dawson County
Fairgrounds along U.S. Highway 283, 2 miles north of the Lexington/I-80
interchange, exit 237.
