Repeat winners at Red Cloud
By Mike Hughes

RED CLOUD, NE (August 3) - Several familiar faces visited the winner’s circle at The Speed Bowl in Red Cloud, NE, Friday evening, August 3.

In the IMCA Modified feature, ‘The Red Cloud Rocket’ Lonnie Schriner picked up his sixth win of the season. Heat two winner Lance Borgman led the first 4 laps of the 20-lap race when the lone caution flew for a spinning Brandon Blochlinger. After the restart, Schriner shot past Borgman to take the lead and pulled away from the field to win by a straightaway. Heat one winner Dusty Blake finished second, followed by Borgman, Mark Zorn and Micaah Johnson.

IMCA Stock Car national point leader Cory Struckhoff of Kensington, KS, helped his point lead with his third win of the year at the 3/8-mile oval. Heat one winner Chad Wulf led at the drop of the green, followed by Brant Beam, Jason Smidt and heat two winner Jason McCartney. After a caution on lap 4 for a two-car tangle, Wulf led the field back to green but was passed by Struckhoff on the following lap. Track point leader Brett Behrends stayed glued to Struckhoff’s bumper the final 15 laps but could not make the pass and settled for second. Matt Streit was third, followed by Wayne Walker and McCartney.

Ricky Runnion led the first four laps of the 14-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature until he spun on lap 4. Roger Crouse then took command but was passed by track point leader Jim Buss of Blue Hill on lap 6. Buss led the remaining distance for his fourth win of the season. Jeromy Wagner, Runnion, Joe McDole and Jerry Hudson rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Kyle Bond and Rhett Kingsbury.

The Good Ol’ Time Racing Association (GOTRA) paid a visit to Red Cloud with Butch Lavicky of David City taking the lead at the halfway mark of their 12-lap feature to drive on for the win. Rich Anderson was second and heat one winner James Sylvester third. Lavicky won the other heat race, and Ken Ganskow collected the hardware in the trophy dash.

Adam Sidlo & E.J. Kothe of Hastings won their 8th Cruiser feature of the year, while Franklin’s Joshua Bodenus took top honors in the 4-cylinder Young Guns.
