Sargent Slaughters Mini’s, Rain Ends Night Early
By Darin Racek

NORTH PLATTE, NE (May 31) - Mother Nature was prominent at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte on May 31, as rain fell shortly before the start of the night, prompting a 45 minute late start. She then poured more rain on the track before the IMCA Stock Car A Feature, calling for an early end of the night. The three IMCA A Features will be run before the regular show on June 7. June 7 is a makeup date for the May 10 rainout. The gates open at 5 PM, and the races will start at 7 PM.

The Mini Sprint class was the only division to get their A Feature run. John Webster of North Platte paced much of the early race. Eric Sargent of North Platte, driving the car that Josh Herbst was to run a couple of weeks ago, started near the back and found his way to the front of the pack on lap six. He had a good lead on Webster at the finish. Heat race winner Cory Kelley of North Platte took third place, while newcomer Dalten Collins of North Platte and Arden Myers of North Platte rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Modified B Feature was won by cash dash winner Jeremy Herbst of North Platte. The win helped him qualify to run the A Feature that will be run on June 7. Joining him in the A Feature will be the drivers that qualified for the event via the heat races, plus Jay Steffens of North Platte, Jamey Kennicutt of Gothenburg, Kyle Clough of Wallace, Luke Frosh of Ogallala, and Dave Pederson of Brady. The three big IMCA heat races were won by Charley Brown of Maxwell, and McCook drivers Don Hagan, Jr. and Ronnie Wallace.

Charley Brown doubled up on heat race wins, as he also won a heat in the IMCA Stock Car class. Shane Stout of North Platte and Casey Werkmeister of Maywood also joined him in wins. The B Feature was won by May 17th A Feature winner Zach Schultz of North Platte. Stew Holmes of North Platte, Branden Eilts of Grand Island, Travis Demilt of Ogallala, and Brent Gibson of Ogallala rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Hobby Stock class saw racers from as far away as Kearney, Benkelman, and Holyoke, Colo. Two of those towns were represented in heat race wins, as Jack Sherman of Kearney and Austin Davis of Benkelman took those wins.
