NORTH PLATTE, NE (July 3, 2010) - Lincoln County Raceway was one race from having the night completed when strong gusty winds came in and blew up a dust storm prompting promoter Ed Milne to call it a night before the heavy rains set in. Up to that point, the weather was decent, the track held up well, and the drivers were putting on a show. Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa, Corey Cruzan of Maxwell, and Bryan Herrick of Curtis were able to get feature wins before the racing night ended. Eighteen cars took to the track for the IMCA Stock Car A Feature, and had a pretty clean start. Mike Nichols started in row four, and worked his to the lead, passing Travis Tilford of North Platte on lap three. Three cautions in the middle of the race slowed it down some, but could not slow Nichols or get anyone close to him to deny the win. Heat race winners Charley Brown of Maxwell and Casey Werkmeister of Maywood battled to the next two spots, with Brown taking second place. Mikey Dancer of North Platte, in his first night out this year, finished in fourth. Casey Woken of Ogallala rounded out the top five, ahead of heat winner Cale Osborn of Cozad. The IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature was slowed by only caution during their fifteen lap race. It was after the fifth lap, and after heat winner Corey Cruzan took the lead from Amherst, Colorado driver Ron Edge. Edge would eventually be edged out of second and third by cash dash winner Dan Morash of North Platte and Austin Davis of Benkelman. Morash would make an unsuccessful run at his third win in a row, as the Maxwell driver stayed out in the lead for his second feature win of the year at the track. Davis dropped out of the race with a lap to go, which meant Edge would finish in third place. Rick Eller and fellow North Platte racer Andrew Baumgardner rounded out the top five. Bryan Herrick won his second consecutive IMCA Northern SportMod A Feature at Lincoln County Raceway and third total for the year Saturday night. He had the lead on lap two, but was hounded by Colton Osborn of Cozad. After a restart on lap ten, Osborn showed the nose of his car under the heat race winner, Herrick stood on the accelerator after that and drove on for a convincing victory. Rick Putnam of Gothenburg finished in third place after starting his first ever SportMod event. Fourth place went to Matt Caudillo of North Platte. He was followed by Chad Young of Imperial. The IMCA Modified A Feature was the race called off. It will be held as the first event for the July 10 show. David Murray of Oberlin, Kansas, Mike Saathoff of North Platte, and Ronnie Wallace of McCook were the winners of the three heat races. Besides the make-up A Feature and regular races for the four divisions, The Colorado Sidewinder Association will bring Mini-Sprints to race on the ¼-mile track on July 11. The gates will open at 5 p.m., and the racing will start at 7 p.m.
