Shryock Pockets Davenport Outlaw Cash

Davenport, IA (April 21, 2006) – Kelly Shryock out-gunned a stellar field of racers Friday night, winning the Mississippi Outlaw Modified Open held at the Davenport Speedway. The Fertile, Ia. driver took home the $2,000 top prize for the feature win.

The 50-lap feature race for the V-8 modifieds started with pole sitter Bob Dominacki of Bettendorf taking the early lead. Port Byron’s Chuck Hanna would get under Dominacki for the lead on lap five. Hanna would hold on to the lead until two late race cautions brought Shryock, who had started 13th, right to his rear bumper.

Shryock would pass Hanna with five laps remaining and go on for the win. Hanna would hold on for second with Jeff Morris finishing third. Marty Thompson, who started 18th, wound up fourth, followed by Jim Willert and Ray Guss Jr.

Modified heat race wins went to Shryock, Guss, Morris and Andy Cook. Milo Veloz Jr. and Bruce Hanford won the semi-features.

Brad Tyler captured a hotly contested street stock feature. Tyler was side by side with Jon Poll on the final lap coming out of the fourth turn. Poll’s car got loose and Tyler took the win. Poll crossed the finish line backwards for second. Finishing behind the lead duo were Corey Booth in a close third, Arthur Carle fourth, and Tim Koehler fifth. Jerry Pratt and Tyler each collected a street stock heat race win.
B-mods and 4-Cylinders completed the show. Steve Daily Jr. outran Jason Pershy and BJ Jackson for the B-Mod main. Joe Zrostlik held off Justin Kay to take the 4-Cylinder main.

The Mississippi Outlaw Modified Challenge continues Saturday at the Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa. The Outlaw Challenge will pay $2000 to the mod winner. The 2006 point season begins next Friday (April 28th) at the Davenport Speedway. IMCA Late Models, V-8 Modfieds, Street Stocks, B-Mods, 4-Cylinders, and INEX Legend Cars will all be in action.
