Meier takes home first win at West Liberty Raceway

WEST LIBERTY,  Ia. (April 22, 2006) - The West Liberty Raceway was back in action with the QCSA Auto Auction Hornets feature event took to the track with Robert Harding taking the early lead heading into turn one but did not last long as Wayne Noble raced pass Harding on the outside down the back stretch. Chris Havel would dispose of Noble the next time around in turns one and two for the lead. Havel's lead would not last long however as Shaun Slaughter coming all the way from his eleventh starting position would pass him down the from stretch for the lead. Jena Barthelmes and Brandon Caslavka would battle down the back stretch for second place by lap three. While the battle was on behind Slaughter he began to pull away from the rest of the pack and take the checkered flag. Barthelmes would out run Caslavka for second place on the last lap. Caslavka would have to settle for third, Darin Smith fourth and Wayne Noble hanging of to fifth place.

The Kile Motorsports Stock Cars The Corner Tap Limited Late Models was one of the more exciting races of the night as Jake Meier won his first ever race at West Liberty Raceway. Meier had to work for it though as he had to get by Jesse Smith, Hal Russell and pole sitter Sam Harroun. Meier would accomplish that after a lap six caution as Harroun would get high in turn two and allow Meier to duck under him for the lead down the back stretch. Meier was not setting his sights on the checkered flag quit yet as Troy Philpott came all the from eleventh to challenge him for the lead. Philpott was on Meier's back bumper for several laps and got beside him a couple of times but could not complet the pass. Meier would be able to hold off Philpott for the victory with Philpott a close second. John Maher had steadily worked his way up to the third position, Brian VanDusen fourth, and Derrin Voss sneaking into the fifth spot.

The The Miller Time Modifieds made there way to the track with Rich Smith taking the lead and Mike Thomas running a close second. Smithand Thomas would run side by side until lap six when Thomas would get a good run out of turn four and get Smith down the front stretch. By the half way point Terry Lawson would work his way up to second place as he battled with Bruce Hanford and Rich Smith. With the laps winding down, Thomas started to stretch his lead and cruise for the feature win with Lawson a distant second. Larry Herring had to go home and get his other car so he started the feature in the back and had a solid run to finished third, Mike Zogg fourth and Rich Smith hung on to fifth place.

JC Dubil Late Models were the last race on the nights program with nineteen cars taking the green flag with Ron Boyse taking the lead. Gary Webb moved his machine up to third place down the back stretch behind Jeff Guengerich. Guengerich would slide back several spots as Rusty Daufeldt and Gary Webb would get by Ron Boyse and those two would battle for the lead for several laps with Webb running the high side and taking over the top spot. Webb looked like he was going to extend his lead and win the race but Chris Simpson was quickly moving to the front and caught Webb in turn one. Webb and Simpson were both running the same line in turn one and two but Simpson diamond the corner and dove under Webb for the lead coming out of turn two. Simpson had no trouble pulling away and going on for the win. Webb took home second with Kurt Kile steadily worked his way up to third, Rusty Daufeldt fourth and Jason Utter finishing fifth.
