Fantastic weather was the recipe for a great night of racing at The Hamilton County Speedway.
by: Ryan Bergeson

RADCLIFFE, IA (April 22, 2006) - The Hamilton County Speedway was back in action this Saturday night for night #3 of the chase for the point’s championship in 2006. Paired with double Stock Car and Modified features, the fans saw a great show and a truly great start to the 2006 season.

The night was started off with the running of the Neighbors Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Stock Car Feature from last Saturday night. The race was started on lap number 2 with lance Deal being the captain of the ship. When the green flag dropped Deal would lead the 22x machine around the speedway as he saw challenges from Jason Minnehan and Scott Bloemke. As the laps continued to count off, Deal would be challenged one more time by Minnehan, but it was not to be. Lance Deal took home the first checkered flag of the evening. Jason Minnehan, Scott Bloemke and Adam Silvey would round out the top four.

The West Wind Logistics Modified Feature event was next on the race track to compete for their first of two on the night. Jason Wagoner would grab the top spot on the race track with Scott Olson trailing right behind him. Gustin and Sutherland would continue to pick their way through the field as the laps counted off. Scott Olson and Wagoner would go side by side by the starter stand but Wagoner was able to hold off the challenge from Olson on the final circuit. Jason Wagoner would take the checkered flag. Scott Olson, Clint Wendel, and Jimmy Gustin would round out the top four. Bob Sutherland would pocket an extra $100 dollars for passing the most cars and win the Karl Chevrolet “Hard Charger Award.”

After starting the evening with two terrific Feature events, it was time to go into a full program of Econo Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Limited Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Modifieds. Econo Stocks would kick off the start of night #3. Donovan Nokes would grab the early race lead until turn number four, T.J. Mortenson, Perne Struchen, and Nokes would go three cars wide for the top prize. Mortenson was able to motor his way to the lead and he had Perne Stuchen following. No one would catch Mortenson on his way to the feature win. Perne Struchen, Austin Wolfgram, and Donovan Nokes would round out the top four. Perne Struchen would pick up the heat race win.

The Performance Electric Hobby Stocks were next on the speedway for their 12 lap A Feature event. Todd Wilson would grab the lead early in the race as the fans saw battles all over the three and four lane wide race track. Roger Haupt Jr. and mark Haglund would power through the field as the laps counted off. Finally, late in the race, Curt Hook would cruise up and look for the top spot. Hook was able to take away the lead from Wilson and he would not look back. Curt Hook would win the Performance Electric Hobby Stock Feature. Todd Wilson, Mark Haglund, and Brandon Leeman would round out the top four. Haglund, Ron Stein, and Todd Wilson would pick up heat race wins.

The Conley’s Trucking Limited Modifieds took center stage and they too, would not dissapoint all the great fans in the stands. Brian Stein, Doug McCollough, Ryan Giles and Matt Lettow would all battle right up front as the laps wore on. Lettow was able to take his Cenex Refine Fuels machine to the top spot on the race track and McCollough would move to the runner up spot. Ryan Giles gassed up his Fast Shafts ride past McCollough to the second position on the speedway. Giles would continue to make ground on Lettow but would be out of time. Lettow would take home the checkered flag. Giles, McCollough, and Rookie Nate Caruth in his Caruth Construction number 7 would round out the top four. Doug McCollough and Matt Lettow would pick up heat race wins.

The Neighbors Heating, Cooling and Plumbing Stock Cars would once again grace the speedway for another terrific battle. Jared Dirks would grab the lead until he powered the car sideways through the turn bringing out a caution. Rusty Fister then would lead coming to green and he would put on a great show for the fans. Fister would almost lose the 15 machine coming out of turn 2, leaving the door wide open for Mitchell Griffith. Griffith would not hesitate grabbing the lead and would take off. As the laps counted off, Fister wasn’t done yet. Fister would continue to reel in the race leader and would get on the outside of Griffith one last time but, could not make the pass. Griffith powered to the win. Fister had a great run for the second position and was followed by Malcolm Teachout, and Scott Bloemke. Todd Foster, Mitchell Griffith, and Malcolm Teachout would grab heat race wins.

The Finale of the evening for night #3 was the West Wind Logistics Modified Feature. This one would go down to the wire. Clint Wendel, would charge his way from the pole position to lead the race throughout. Right behind him was Joe McBirnie trying to find a way to pass the 75 machine. Dave Doughty, and Jimmy Gustin would power their way through the field and look for the top prize on the speedway. On lap number 18, the caution flag would fly for Dan Sheeders automobile and that would realign the field. Coming to green it was Wendel, McBirnie, Scott Olson and Jimmy Gustin and this is where it got interesting. When they took the green, McBirnie looked upstairs for the lead and Wendel would drift high, leaving the door wide open for Scott Olson. Olson would power his way to the top spot bringing Jimmy Gustin and Bill Crimmins with him. When the checkered flag dropped, Scott Olson would be the first to see it. Olson picked up the second feature of the night and would become the third different winner in three different weeks. Gustin, Crimmins, and Wendel would round out the top four. Scott Williams, and Joe McBirnie would pick up heat race wins.

What a terrific night at The Historic Half Mile. The drivers put on a wonderful show that had fans grinning from ear to ear as they exited the ticket gate. The track crew has been working on the track night and day to present a racing surface that everyone can be happy with and again, they would not dissapoint. Don’t forget next Saturday night, The IMCA Late Models division will be back in 2006 presented by Dinsdale Motors. Dinsdale Motors offers high quality used cars located on Main Street in Webster City. On behalf of Al Uhrhammer and everyone with Pro Track Promotions, we say thank you. We will see you next Saturday night, April 29, for hot laps at 6:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
