Construction Crews Begin Paving Of Exterior Roads

NEWTON, IA (May 15, 2006) - Crews from the Manatts Corporation paved a large section of Rusty Wallace Drive from the entrance of Tunnel Road all the way to the Newton Municipal Airport (approx. 1 mile) in one day on Saturday. Rusty Wallace Drive is being widened to three lanes and will connect from Iowa Speedway Drive, which runs from Exit #168 on Interstate 80 into the Main Parking Lot, all the way past the Airport to Reasnor Road, which runs North and South to the West of the Speedway. Crews from the Manatts Corporation paved the entire 36 feet wide stretch of road and one mile of length all in one day this past Saturday. “This truly shows the caliber of the contractors that we have working on this project”, stated Todd Melfi, General Manager, “to pave a three lane road close to a mile in length in less than one day speaks wonders for the capabilities of the Manatts Corporation and we are lucky to have them as one of our contractors on this project. We now know that we will not have any issues with the completion of their end of the work on Iowa Speedway”.

Iowa Speedway hopes to begin paving the actual racing surface in the first part of June with completion set for July of 2006. The first race event is scheduled for September 15-17 as the stars of the Hooters Pro Cup Series and USAC Silver Crown, National Sprint and National Midget Series invade the Heartland for what will prove to be a fabulous weekend of racing to kick things off. The Speedway’s second and final weekend of racing will be October 14-15 as the ASA Late Model Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series come to town for 500 laps of racing over two days at Iowa Speedway.
