HERRING GETS THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

WEST LIBERTY, Ia. (May 27, 2006) - The QCSA Aution Auction Hornets were first to take to the track on a warm windy night. Alex Buffington would set the pace as they entered the first turn. Going down the back stretch, Robert Harding would move in to the second position. Shaun Slaughter would be able to take over the top spot by lap two coming out of turn four. After a lap two caution, Jerrod McMichael would be able to use that caution to move in to second place. With a couple of laps left, McMichael would start to slowly run down Slaughter. Heading into turn three on the last lap, McMichael would be able to get around Slaughter for the win. Slaughter would have to settle for second with Robert Harding third, Alex Buffington fourth, and Ross Davisson fifth.

Jerrod Collins took the early lead in the USRA Kile Motorsports Stock Cars with Derek Simpson and Doug Yates following him through the first two turns. Yates would get around Simpson the next lap with Collins already starting to build a little bit of a lead between him and Yates. Scott Pratt would also get around Simpson a lap later and then would battle with Yates for a couple of laps before he would be able to duck under Yates for second place. By lap seven, Pratt would be able to run down Collins and the two would battle for the remainder of the race. Pratt would try and make a run on Collins a couple of times but Collins stayed smooth and would go on to take the checkers first. Pratt would take home a close second with Doug Yates third, Greg Gill moving up to the fourth position, and Ryan Buffington rounding out the top five.

The Corner Tap Limited Late Models made their way to the track with Tim Rock setting the pace when the green flag flew. The front row was the key on the dry-slick track and Rock took advantage of it as he gained a little of a lead early on. Sam Harroun would however get on Rock's back bumper and even touch him a couple of times in turn two to put the pressure on Rock, but Rock stayed smooth and hugged the bottom of the track. Behind them was another battle brewing with Derrin Voss and Matt
Brockert swapping positions several times. Voss started running up on the high side of the track and gained ground as he would get side-by-side with Harroun and Rock in turn two on lap six. Harroun would get sideways in turn four and loose a few positions which allowed Voss to challenge Rock again. After a late race caution, Brockert would use it to his advantage and run the high side to take over second place and challenge Rock. Brian VanDusen would also take advantage of the caution as he moved into the third position. Rock would continue to hug the bottom and out-run Brockert to the finish line taking home his first win of the season. Brockert finished second with VanDusen third, Harroun coming back up to fourth and John Maher sneaking into the top
five.

The USRA Miller Time Modifieds saw a repeat winner as Larry Herring would take home his third straight victory. The beginning of the race was a little scary as Bruce Hanford went into turn one in the lead and almost spins in the front of the entire field, but the verteran driver gathered it up and held onto the second spot. Hanford did not quit there as he took over the lead going through turns three and four. Terry Walker moved into second place and started to put pressure on Hanford and finally gets by him going into turn three by lap six. Larry Herring was on the move by lap nine as he ran side-by-side with Brad Dubil and would be able to get under him in three for third place. Herring was not done yet as he would get by Hanford and then set his sights on Walker. By lap ten Herring would take over the top spot as he got under Walker coming out of turn two. By lap sixteen, Herring had built a comfortable lead by about ten car lengths. Herring would go on for the easy win with Terry Walker taking home his best finish of the year in second place, Brad Dubil third, Robbie Verbeck moving into fourth place and Bruce Hanford holding on to fifth.

The last race on the night was the JC Dubil Late Models with a big mess in turn one with six cars being involved. All cars would be able to continue when the green flag flew. Jody Metzger would take the top spot when the race resumed. Ron Boyse and Jeff Guengerich would follow Metzger through the first circuit. Todd Davis would be able to get by Guengerich out of turn four for third place on lap two. Metzger would hug the bottom of the track just like the other drivers did in the previous races. Boyse would stay within striking distance if Metzger would bobble. Metzger would not bobble however and would win his first ever Late Model feature win at West Liberty Raceway. Ron Boyse came in a close second, Matt Gilchrist made a late race charge to finish third, Todd Davis fourth and Kevin Kile rounding out the top five.
