Moline Gets Sixth Straight on Wild Night at Davenport

Davenport, IA (June 16, 2006) – Everything was there but the full moon Friday at the Davenport Speedway. The eventful evening included three rollovers, one that involved the water truck. When the night was over, there were three first-time Davenport for 2006, one winning streak broken, and one continued.

Kevin Blum looked for his fifth straight IMCA late feature win, but came up one spot short. Doug Nigh (in a Blum-owned racecar) took the lead from Ron Gustaf on lap 7, and cruised the rest of the way for the win. Blum would come all the way from 11th starting position to finish second with Jim Sandusky third, Ray Guss Jr fourth, and Eric Gustaf fifth.

Father & son Gustaf (Ron & Eric) each picked up a heat race win along with feature winner Nigh. Matt Ryan won the semi.

The V-8 Modified class had another full field of cars, but was short Chuck Hanna, whose car was severely damaged during his heat race. Despite the crash and a few flames Chuck was okay.

Andy Cook used his second row starting spot to get out in front of the feature early. Once in the lead, Cook was able to hold off the field to take his second win of the season. Tim Bradley started second and recorded his best finish of the season in the same spot. The battle for the third position was a fierce one all race long that eventually went to Thad Wilson. Milo Veloz Jr. and Troy Emerick rounded out the top five. Modified heat race wins went to Cook, Jerry Connors, and Bob Dominacki.

Dan Klatt captured his first Street Stock feature of the year at Davenport. Klatt started on the outside pole and managed to stay out in front of the action all the way to the checkers. Brad Tyler emerged from the pack to take second, with Mike Driscoll coming from deep in the field to finish third. Randy Exline and Rob Henry rounded out the top five. Henry and Tim Koehler won the heats.

The B-Mod main saw a first-time winner for the fifth week in a row. Jake Waterman was the latest to add his name to the list. Jake took the lead early in the race and held on despite several cautions. Nick Hixson benefited from a timely caution to hold on to a second place finish. Pat Fennelly took third, with Bryan Rogers fourth, and Craig Crawford fifth. Dan Anderson and Hixson were the heat winners.

Keith Moline took the sixth straight win of the season in INEX Legend Car action. Moline moved up quickly through the field but didn't take the lead until he passed a fast Perry Mitchell. Mitchell would hang on to take second, with Chad Patch third, Rick Harris fourth, and Eric Barth fifth. Matt Montieth, Warren Ropp, and Moline took the heats.

Dustin Kay made a late race pass by Tom Lamey to win the 4-Cylinder main. Lamey would hold on to second with Chris Zrostlik finishing third, Justin Kay fourth, and Todd Sibley fifth.
