Hanna Rebounds for Win While Nigh Repeats

DAVENPORT, IA (June 23, 2006) – The onset of Mid-Season at the Davenport Speedway only raised the intensity of the racing action on the quarter-mile oval. The result was a night of thrills, spills and close finishes.

Doug Nigh led only one circuit of the 25-lap IMCA late feature Friday. Fortunately for him it was the final one, the one that counts. The win was his second straight at Davenport.

Jason Parrish started on the pole and held the lead until lap six. Racin' Jason Bahrs took the lead from Parrish but let Andy Nezworski get by on lap ten. Nezworski hugged the bottom and looked ready for his first Davenport victory until a series of late race cautions ruined his plans.

The final caution of the race set up a two-lap dash for the win with Nezworski in front, Nigh and Ray Guss Jr., right behind. Nezworski and Nigh were neck and neck at the white flag, Nigh drove hard into turn three on the last lap and found enough bite to beat Nezworski to the line by half a car length. Kevin Blum recovered from an early caution to finish third, with Guss and Fred Remley rounding out the top five. Guss, Bahrs, and Mike Murphy Jr., won the late model heats.

It was zero to hero for Chuck Hanna in V-8 Modified feature. After severely damaging his car last week, Hanna came back with a vengeance and captured his first Davenport win of the season.

Hanna took the lead from Tony Von Dresky on lap eight and held on to win the feature. Thad Wilson battled his way through heavy traffic to take second ahead of Andy Cook, John Bull, and Matt Stein. Modified heat race wins went to Hanna, Stein, and Rick Ratliff, while Daron Oberbroeckling won the semi-feature.

Ron Marks Jr., captured his first Street Stock feature of the year at Davenport. Marks started up front and managed to stay out in front of the action all the way to the checkers. Marks had to hold off Ron Doolittle and Rob Henry for the win. Dolittle headed pack to take second, with Henry third Bruce Fosdyck fourth, and Korey Peterson rounding out the top five. Marks, Doolittle, and Brad Tyler won the heats.

The B-Mod main saw a repeat winner for the second time this season. Craig Crawford scored his third win and second points win of 2006. Jeremy Marquette worked his way through to finish second, ahead of BJ Jackson, Pat Fennelly, and Dan Anderson. Mike Fluegel and Crawford were the B-mod heat winners.

Warren Ropp, another driver involved in a serious crash last week, came back to win the feature on Friday. Ropp's INEX Legend Car feature win also ended Keith Moline's consecutive win streak at six. Wisconsin ace Eric Barth finished second, while Moline nursed a sour engine to a third place finish. Tom Butler and Chad Patch completed the top five. Barth, Rick Harris, and Moline took the heats.

Todd Sibley won his first race of the season at Davenport in the 4-Cylinder main. Sibley's other car, driven by Brad Roelandt was second with Steve Boyle finishing third.
