Wilwert, Rupp and Cox Get Their First Jackson Count Speedway Victories
by Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IA. (July 1, 2006) - With a great crowd and one hundred and three race cars registered into the speedway Jackson County got off to a great start Saturday evening. The first feature to pull onto the track was the 4 Stock division and what a great race. Pole sitter Jeremy Capron grabbed the lead on the first lap but turned it over to Tom Lamey on lap two. A third lap restart had Jeremy Campbell take over the point with Dustin Wilwert moving into second and lap five. On lap seven Dan Mohr got by Lamey and it became a three way battle for the first spot between Campbell, Wilwert and Mohr. On the eighth lap these three came off turn four three cars wide and were still that way at the flag stand with Wilwert edged out fron by less than a bumper. Wilwert went on for his first Jackson County Speedway win of the season with Mohr edging out Campell to take second. Lamey Held on for fourth with Mike McGarry fifthl Mohr and Brannon Bechen won the heats.

After winning the Trophy Truck heat race Joe Bonney came back to take his third feature win of the year.Ethan Milder was second with Alan Staskal third.
The Hobby Stock feature went flag to flag non-stop with second heat winner Corey Rupp using his pole starting spot to lead flag to flag. Neil Patchin was in hot pursuit but by lap ten Rupp put a lapped car between himself and Patchin to secure the victory. Patchin was second with Jeff Specht third, Sheldon Hunter fourth and Don Marcov Sr fifth. It had appeared Rupp had won a feature earlier in the year, but his car was found illegal in post race inspection. This time was for real as he got his first real victory at Jackson County. Steve Harms won the other heat.

Kirk Caes led the first lap of the B Modified feature with second heat winner, Kieth Feller taking over on lap two. On a fifth lap restart first heat winner, B.J. Jackson moved into second and the battle was on for the rest of the race. The last four laps these two ran side by side with Jackson having the lead coming off turn four and Feller edging in front by the time they got to the flag stand. That is just how it finished Jackson with the lead off four and Feller taking the win by a bumper at the line. It was Feller's second win of the season as these two are also in quite a battle for the point lead with Jackson in front by a mere seven points.
Things turned a little sour at this point as an electrical short took out the track lights. It took a little over a half hour to get things going again thanks to the city electrician, track electrition, Phil Derganz and race car driver, Scott Schurbon.

When things got going again Street Stock feature action was the next to hit the track. First heat winner, Brendan Driscoll used his pole starting spot to lead the first lap with Jon Poll taking over on lap two. A seventh lap restart saw second heat winner Andrew Chelf take over the front spot with Poll tight on his bumper. Chelf went on for his second win this season with Poll second. Mike Shrope took third with Brian Bonney fourth and Driscoll holding on for fifth.
John Irwin jumped into the lead of the V8 Modified feature, but a third lap restart had Scott Olson take over. On a seventh lap restart second heat winner, Ray Cox Jr moved into the point and held it the rest of the way for his fist Jackson County Speedway win this year. Bart Miller came from eleventh place to take second with Olson holding on for third. First heat winner, Don Pataska took fourth with Mike Weidemann taking fifth.

The IMCA Late Model feature got off to a rough start as Scott Schurbon rolled his Dodge on the back stretch before a lap was scored sending himself, Mark Preston and Kevin Blum to the pit area, done for the night. Preston tried to come back but only ran one lap before retiring for good. On the restart Terry Neal went to the front and stayed there for his third win this season. While running second about mid way through the race Ryan Duhme got completly out of shape in turn four and dropped to fifth, but battled his way back up to take second by the end. Hershel Roberts was third with Mike Guldenpfennig fourth and Steve Olson fifth. Blum and Neal won the heats. All in all it was a great night of racing and a great fireworks show following.
