Nezworski Finally Makes Trip to Davenport Winner's Circle

DAVENPORT, IA. (July 14, 2006) – For the third straight week at Davenport Speedway, it was a new face in the winner's circle following the IMCA late model feature. This time it was Andy Nezworski's turn to visit victory lane. The win was Nezworski's first-ever late model win at the famed Davenport quarter-mile track.

Pole sitter Rob Toland led the first twelve laps of the IMCA late model feature, but lost the lead to Nezworski after a restart. Nezworski would lead the remaining laps to take the win. Toland would hang on to finish second with Mark Preston third. Ray Guss Jr. finished in fourth, while Terry Neal took fifth. Toland, Neal, and Jim Sandusky won the late model heats, with Ron Gustaf winning the semi.

Kevin Williams led the V-8 Modified feature through the first two cautions, but on lap seven, Jerry Connors burst into the lead. Connors would go on to lead the rest of the way for his second straight win and third of the season. Milo Veloz Jr. started alongside Connors and would finish a strong second. Bob Dominacki, who brought out the race's first caution, rim-rode to a third place finish. Doug Crampton and John Bull rounded out the top five. Williams, Marty Diercks, and Chris Giegle took Modified heat race wins, with Chuck Hanna taking the semi-feature.

In Street Stock action, Jeff Stevens captured his second straight feature win. Stevens started on the outside pole led flag to flag. Randy Exline would finish second, a full straightaway behind the winner. Ron Doolittle drove to a third place finish with Henry Carson and Matt Zumwalt rounding out the top five. Stevens and Doolittle won the heats.

The B-Mod main saw a little bit of everything. Brad Pershy held the early race lead, before becoming the race's second caution. Dan Anderson took over, but only for one lap as the caution flag waved again. B.J. Jackson snatched away the lead on the restart and would lead the remaining laps for the win, or so everyone thought. Jackson's car was found to be light at the scales and was disqualified. Pat Fennelly managed to stay out of trouble and was credited with the win. Anderson was second, Joe Jones Jr. third, Jeremy Marquette fourth and Mike Lief Jr. fifth. Anderson, Bryan Rogers, and Craig Crawford won the B-Mod heats.

Warren Ropp continued his winning streak in the INEX Legend Car feature. Ropp's victory was his fourth straight win. Keith Meyer, Chad Patch, and Rick Harris each took turns in the lead, until Ropp took over on lap ten. Patch would finish in the runner-up spot followed by Harris, Meyer, and Zach Hamilton, in that order. Dennis Begyn and Harris took the heats.

Joe Zrostlik won his third feature of the season at Davenport in the 4-Cylinder main. Joe had to work his way around leader Justin Kay on his way to the win. Justin would finish second with brother Dustin Kay third and father Rick Kay fourth. Brad Roelandt (not related) was fifth. Zrostlik and Justin Kay won the heats.
