Pestka Gets His First as Harms and Neal Each Make It Five
by Ed Potter

MAQUOKETA, IA. (July 15, 2006) - It was a warm Saturday evening at Jackson County Speedway and the racing matched the heat. One new winner was crowned along with six repeat winners. It also seemed to be a rough night on race cars. As proof of this the nineteen car 4 Stock feature had six cautions in the first four laps which included two roll overs. On the drop of the green young Justin Kay rolled his car off the first turn. Justin was OK and returned to the back of the field.. Tow laps later John Campbell rolled his car coming off turn two. Campbell was also OK, but his car was unable to return. Second heat winner, Greg Schmitt took the early lead with first heat winner, Brannon Bechen taking over on the third lap restart. On the white flag lap Dan Mohr charged out front and went on to take his third trip to victory lane this season. Justin Kay came back through the pack to an amazing second place finish with Bechen holding on for third. Third heat winner, Kile Vohringer took home fourth with Dustin Kay fifth.

Trophy Truck heat winner, Joe Bonney took the lead of the feature from Ethan Milder at the mid-way point and went on for his fourth win this year. Bruce Yoerger was second with Milder third and Alan Staskal fourth.

Corey Rupp grabbed the early lead of the Hobby Stock feature, but on the races second caution at lap six Steve Harms took over the point. Two laps later another caution flew sending point leader and first heat winner, Sheldon Hunter to the pits out of the race. Still one more caution flew before the end of the race, but nothing was going to stop Harms from taking his fifth checkers of the season. Second heat winner, Don Marcov Sr was second with Rupp holding on for third. Matt Wilson took fourth and Tim Bader fifth.

Front row starter Todd Moore led the first two laps of the B Modified feature with first heat winner and sixth place starter Jarrett Franzen taking over on lap three. By Lap eight Franzen was having to hold off second heat winner, Keith Feller, when the caution flew at lap ten. On the restart Feller took over the point and went on for his fourth win this season. Franzen held on for a strong second followed by Jay Garvey, B.J. Jackson and Rick Galloway, in that order.

Pole sitter, Duane Rittmer led the first lap of the Street Stock feature with Jon Poll taking over on lap two. Poll sailed on for his second win this year holding off the challenges of Andrew Chelf and Brian Bonney. Chelf took second with Bonney third. Rittmer held on for fourth with Josh Wilson taking fifth. Chelf and Luke Miller were the heat winners.

The V8 Modified feature only had one caution and it flew before a lap was scored, but it sent point leader Ray Cox Jr to the pits with a broken race car. Andy Cook grabbed the early lead with Luke Pestka taking over on lap four. Pestka was not going to be denied his first feature win of the season as he led the rest of the way. Bart Miller took second with Tony VonDresky third, Timmy Current fourth and Bob Dominacki fifth. Cox and Don Pataska were the heat winners.

IMCA Late Model first heat winner, Cory Goldbeck grabbed the early lead of the feature and led the first nine laps. On lap ten Jon Merfeld took over the point but the caution flew one lap later bring the feild back up rightr behind him. At lap thirteen, thirteenth place started, Terry Neal moved into second place and was putting the pressure on Merfeld. Three laps later Neal got by to take over the lead. The races only other caution flew on the white flag lap bringing the race to a close. Neal took his fifth win of the year with Merfeld holding on for second.
