Brian Birkhofer Claims Two Lucas Oil Wins in Front of SPEED
Channel Cameras!
by: Ryan Delph
MUSCATINE, IOWA (July 25, 2006) - The Birkhofer Racing team had a tremendous
weekend, as they registered two $10,000 victories in front of the SPEED Channel
cameras and an additional second place finish in Dirt Late Model action in Iowa
and Missouri. The weekend started off last Thursday, July 20 at the Adams County
Speedway in Corning, Iowa. The Muscatine, Iowa native finished third in his heat
race, but turned up the wick in the $5,000 to win PolyDome World Dirt Racing
League (WDRL) feature by posting a solid runner-up finish to Dave Eckrich.
Brian and his #15b team then traveled to the historic Knoxville Raceway in
Knoxville, Iowa on Friday for the first of two $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late
Model Dirt Series events. After finishing third in his heat race, "Birky" rolled
off from the inside of the fourth row for the 50-lap A-Main. Brian drove his
Daufeldt Transport / J&J Steel / McDonalds of the Quad Cities / ASI Racewear /
Simon Trucking #15b Rocket / Pro Power entry up to the front and pressured race
leader Jimmy Mars before eventually getting by the #28 of Mars on lap 42. He
then held off Mars and Scott Bloomquist over the final eight circuits to record
the $10,000 win in front of the SPEED Channel cameras.
Brian's winning ways continued on Saturday, as he claimed back-to-back Lucas Oil
Late Model Dirt Series wins by capturing the A-Main at the new and improved
Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. After winning his heat race by virtue
of Steve Casebolt letting up on the white flag lap, "Birky" rolled off from the
pole for the 50-lap A-Main. After Don O'Neal led the first circuit, Birkhofer
showed the point for the next forty-nine laps, as he was able to hold off a
fierce challenge from O'Neal and Scott Bloomquist to register his second
straight win in front of the SPEED Channel cameras.
The broadcast dates for these events will be announced soon by Lucas Oil Late
Model Dirt Series officials!
“I don’t know what to say about our weekend other than everything seemed to go
right,” commented Birkhofer following his fabulous weekend. “We had a good run
at Corning on Thursday and then won two televised events at Knoxville and
Wheatland. I haven’t won to many television races in my career, so that was
pretty cool to win those races for myself and for all of my sponsors. It was a
lot of fun racing Jimmy (Mars) for the win at Knoxville and then (Don) O’Neal
and (Scott) Bloomquist at Wheatland. Those guys raced me very clean and I really
appreciate that. Maybe our good luck can continue at Lebanon and Deer Creek this
week!”
Brian will bring his familiar black #15b to three World of Outlaws Late Model
Series events this week in Missouri and Minnesota. The man they call “Birky”
will invade the I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Missouri tonight for a $10,000 to win
show. A pair of $10,000 to win, 50-lap events are schedule for this weekend at
the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
The finale on Saturday, July 29 at Deer Creek will be taped by the cameras of
the SPEED Channel for broadcast on a later date. For more information concerning
these three shows, please visit www.woolms.com.
