Toland, Diercks, Exline and Pershy Take First 2006 Davenport Wins

DAVENPORT, IA (July 28, 2006) – The final race before the Mississippi Valley Fair is always a special one at the Davenport Speedway. This particular Friday was no exception as four of the six classes registered first-time Davenport victories for 2006.

Pole sitter Jason Parrish and Ron Gustaf swapped the lead of the IMCA late model feature several times before surrendering it to Rob Toland. Following a lengthy mid-race caution, Kevin Blum made a bonsai move on the high side to take second. Lap after lap, Toland on the bottom and Blum on the top, they raced to the checkers. Toland beat Blum by five car lengths at the finish for his first Davenport win of the year. Terry Neal took third. Ray Guss Jr. finished in fourth, while Rick Wages took fifth. Toland, Gustaf, and Mark Preston won the late model heats, with Andy Nezworski winning the semi.

The V-8 Modified feature was a green, white, checkered affair that also brought a first-time Davenport winner for 2006. Marty Diercks took the lead from pole sitter Kevin Williams on lap three and drove away for the win. Diercks bobbled late in the race and took a shortcut through the infield. Luckily he had built up a sizeable lead and held the top spot until the checkers flew. Troy Emerick had a strong run to finish second, with Bob Dominacki taking third. Jerry Connors and Chuck Hanna rounded out the top five.

Modified heat race wins went to Connors, Diercks, and John Bull, with Donovan Lodge taking the semi-feature.

Randy Exline would finally capture his first Davenport Street Stock feature of the year. Exline started in the third row, but had the lead by the end of the first lap. It was a lead he would not relinquish. Brad Tyler held off Rob Henry for second. Henry Carson and Ron Doolittle rounded out the top five. Exline and Tim Koehler won the heats.

The B-Mod main started with a bang, as a multi-car incident displaced the field. B-Rad Pershy managed to be in front of the mayhem and led the feature flag to flag for his first win at Davenport. Point leader Pat Fennelly came back from that early race incident to finish second. Josh Giegle was third with Jeremy Marquette fourth and Dan Anderson fifth. Jake Waterman and Brad Pershy won the B-Mod heats.

Eric Barth was able to get under race leader Rick Harris and held off the field to take the INEX Legend Car feature win. Harris would finish second with Warren Ropp third and Keith Moline fourth in a borrowed car. the victory was Barth's second this year. Moline and Harris each took heat race wins.
