Rain Washes Out Races at the Buena Vista Raceway!
by: Dennis Grabenbauer

BUENA VISTA, IA (Aug. 2, 2006) - For the first time this season, since opening night on March 31st, rain would cancel the scheduled week number sixteen at the Buena Vista Raceway. “With the two inches of rain from the night before and a day when it wasn’t going to dry, it was just best to cancel the night, and look toward next week,” said track promoter Lee Meyer. “The rain was a blessing, because we have been so dry, but we hate losing a night of racing with the season down to five weeks remaining.” This was the first rain out the track has experience since May 25th of last season. “We were rained out last August 10th after the heat races were run, so I guess we have been pretty lucky that mother nature has not been to tough on us,” continued Meyer.

As the raceway enters into its final month of the season the point battles are shaping up not only at the track but the National I.M.C.A. point standings are again seeing weekly competitors at the top of the leader board. “This is great for the fans to know the caliber of drivers that they are watching are the drivers who are making an impact on the National scene,” said Meyer.

I.M.C.A. Modified point leader, Jay Noteboom, is currently in the third position Nationally only nine points from the lead. Ricky Stephan is in second place on Wednesday and is in fifth in National points. Brian Blessington is currently leading the National point race in the I.M.C.A. Stock Cars with BVR Point leader David Smith in second.

Donovan Smith who has the Wednesday I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock Point lead is also leading the National Point total. Donovan, who has over 30-feature wins on the year, leads his brother, the defending National Champion, Dustin Smith, “With the number of our weekly drivers that are doing so well, a rain out is really not what they are looking for.”

Racing will resume next Wednesday night with three extra races that will be added. “Next week we will also be having Powder Puff and Mechanic Races in the BVR Bomber division. We will also be ending the night with a Trophy Dash for the Hobby Stocks. This is just a yearly tradition that drivers, crews and wives, girl friends all have enjoyed so we will be doing it again this year.”

Next Wednesday night will be Ag Partners night at the speedway with First Coop joining KAYL-KKIA Radio night on the following Wednesday night August 16th.

Also on August 16th, Lee and Becky Meyer will be bringing a new class of racecars to the speedway. “We have been getting a lot of interest in starting a 4-Cylinder Class so our new class will be the BVR 4-Bangers,” say’s Becky. “This type of car should be fun and exciting. We are just trying out the waters to see what type of interest this might draw for next year. It’s never to early to start planning ahead,” concludes Becky. Racing will begin with hot-laps at 6:45 and the first race of the night will get underway at 7:30.
