Toland Takes Second Straight Davenport Win

DAVENPORT, IA (August 11, 2006) – The race after the Mississippi Valley Fair was hard on cars, drivers, and tempers, Friday at the Davenport Speedway. The quickly approaching Season Championships only added to the intensity of the evening.

Pole sitter Jason Parrish jumped out to a huge lead in the IMCA late model feature. Jason held the lead until a lap 16 caution. On the ensuing restart, Rocket Rob Toland pulled out in front, but another caution involving most of the top five would again tighten the field. Toland again pulled away and cruised to an easy victory, his second straight Davenport win. Adam Oppendike took second in his best LM finish at Davenport, followed by Ray Guss Jr., Mark Preston, and Rick Wages.

Toland, Wages, and Terry Neal won the late model heats, with Preston winning the semi.

The V-8 Modified feature was a rough and tumble affair. Mike Zemo Jr. led lap one, with Davenport's most recent winner Marty Diercks taking the lead on lap two. Once again, a caution flag would take down the race leader, as Diercks suffered a flat tire during a lap 16 yellow. Doug Crampton took the lead on the restart and drove to his second Davenport win of the season. Donovan Lodge came from deep in the field to finish second over Zemo, Bob Dominacki, and Tony VonDresky. Modified heat race wins went to Crampton, Diercks, and Keith Blum.

Jerry Pratt would capture his second Street Stock points feature of the year at Davenport. Pratt inherited the lead when Jeff Stevens experienced engine problems. Randy Exline would finish second, ahead of Scott Pratt, Ron Doolittle, and Matt Zumwalt in that order. Only six of the sixteen starters made it to the checkered flag. Jerry Pratt and Jeff Stevens won the heats.

B-Rad Pershy took the lead of the B-Mod main on the second lap and drove to his second straight Davenport win. BJ Jackson came from a fifth row starting spot to take second. Bryan Rogers finished third with Craig Crawford and Josh Giegle rounding out the top five. Rogers and Pershy won the B-Mod heats.

Rick Harris finally broke through and took his first INEX Legend Car feature of the season. Harris, who had recorded 21 Davenport wins in the two previous seasons, grabbed the lead on lap two of the 15-lapper and led all the way to the checkers. Chad Patch took second with Craig Peekenschnieder, Keith Meyer, and Keith Moline rounding out the top five. Harris also took the heat race win.

Dusty Kay won his fifth feature of the season at Davenport in the 4-Cylinder main. Kay had to pass Steve Boyle to take the lead. Justin Kay finished second with Steven Phillips third. Steven Phillips was fourth and Todd Sibley fifth. Dusty Kay won the heat.
