A beautiful evening for racing and a very fast track were the order of the day for the 104 racers who filled the pits at West Liberty Saturday night.

WEST LIBERTY, IA. (Aug. 12, 2006) - The JC Dubil Late Model feature saw Jeff Guengerich take and hold the early lead from his outside front row starting spot. By lap 9, however, Kurt Kile was challenging and by lap 13 had taken the lead just as a caution flag came out for an incident in turn 2 involving Ron Boyse. When action resumed, Kile maintained his lead, with Matt Gilchrist, Nick Marolf, Guengerich and Todd Davis following him across the finish line.

Rich Smith held the early lead in the Miller Time Modified feature until being overtaken by Dan Chapman on lap 9. Chapman, with Zach Vanderbeek close behind, appeared to be headed to a 1-2 finish until lap 14 when a multi-car pileup involving the leaders brought out the red light and kept the wreckers busy for several minutes. The restart saw another caution when Scott Stecher scraped the turn 1 wall. When the green flag dropped again, Bruce Hanford took the front spot and held off Terry Walker the final six laps for the win. Rounding out the top five were Mike Zogg, Robbie Verbeck and Brad Dubil.

The Corner Tap Limited Late Model feature had a repeat winner in Sam Harroun, but his margin of victory was not as great as in some previous weeks. Matt Bodman was within shouting distance of Sam, apparently solving some of the engine and handling problems that have plagued him this season. Finishing third was Dan Brockert, with Allen Diercks and Derrin Voss rounding out the top five. Special recognition needs to go to John Maher and crew, who managed to repair a rolled and battered #69 machine well enough to make an appearance in the feature.

The Kile Motorsports Stock Car feature kept the wreckers busy at the start with early lap cautions. Lap 2 saw a red light for a the rollover of Dale Tetmeyer’s #61. Lap 5 saw the yellow displayed for the #11 of Jerry Pratt, who did a 180 degree turn in the middle of the backstretch and had the misfortune to be facing the wrong way to most of the field. The #11 was clipped by several cars, with Bub Erwin’s #66 appearing to have the worst damage as the left rear wheel was rolling on the ground when it came into the pits on the hook. The restart lasted three laps, until a lap 8 caution in turn 1 for Jerrod Collins and Todd Salazar. The checkered flag lap was the same as it has been the past several weeks - Scotty Pratt, this night followed by Greg Gill, Ryan Buffington, Trent Vrchoticky and Jamie Figg.

The QCSA Auto Auction also saw a repeat winner. Shaun Slaughter took the lead on lap 3 and was well on his way to another victory until a caution on lap 6 for an incident in turn 1 set up a green/white/checkered finish. The third time was the charm for the restarts, and the field finished with Slaughter taking the checkers, followed by Jess Jondle, Jeff Miller, Ross Davisson and Geoffrey Theobald.
