Guss, Wilson, and Koehler Break Through at Season Championship

DAVENPORT, IA. (Aug. 25, 2006) - Three racers waited until the final night of the 2006 point season to collect their first feature win of the year at the Davenport Speedway. The Season Championships meant track titles, pride, and for some the last chance to take the green.

In the IMCA late model feature, Terry Neal blasted out into the lead from his second row starting spot. Neal then brought out the caution when he stopped on the track with a flat tire.

On the restart, Ray Guss Jr. took the point and would lead all the way to the checkers, for his first Davenport win of the season. Kevin Blum stayed on Guss' tail throughout the race, but would settle for a second place finish and the track championship. Rob Toland came from 17th starting spot to finish third, with Rick Wages and Eric Gustaf rounding out the top five.

Wages, Fred Remley, and Hershel Roberts each won late model heats.

V-8 Modified feature saw point leader and pole sitter Jerry Connors rocket away from the field. Late in the race, Connors would get bogged down by lapped traffic, allowing Thad Wilson to power by and take the lead. Wilson would go on to take his first win at Davenport this season. Connors would hold on for second with Bob Dominacki a close third. Donovan Lodge took fourth with Mike Zemo Jr. fifth. Lodge, Wilson, and Marty Diercks won Modified heat races. Connors' second place finish was more than enough to claim the Modified track championship.

Tim Koehler captured the Street Stock trifecta. Coming into the night as the points leader, Koehler won his heat, feature and championship all in one night. The victory was also his first of the season. Randy Exline would challenge for the lead several times in the feature, but settled for the runner-up spot. Bruce Fosdyck took third, with Kevin Schloemer and Matt Zumwalt fourth and fifth respectively. Henry Carson won the other heat race.

Pat Fennelly put the exclaimation point on his B-Mod track championship, by taking his fourth Davenport feature win of the season. Dan Anderson put on a strong charge to finish second, followed by BJ Jackson, Bryan Rogers, and Brad Pershy in that order. Rogers and Anderson won the B-Mod heats.

The closest points battle coming into the night was in the INEX Legend Car division. At the start of their feature, only eleven points separated Keith Moline and Rick Harris. During the first caution of the race Harris pulled off the track with mechanical problems. After the restart, Moline would pull into the infield as well. The two would finish 13th & 14th giving Moline the track title. Meanwhile on the racetrack, the veteran Warren Ropp held off young Brandon Hentges for his fifth win of the season. Chad Patch took third with Craig Peekenschnieder and Aaron Meyer rounding out the top five. Harris and Ropp took heat race wins.

Justin Kay won his fifth feature of the season at Davenport in the 4-Cylinder main. Kay cruised to the victory over Joe Zrostlik in second and Steven Phillips third. Wade Dahl was fourth and Steve Boyle fifth. Despite finishing 11th, Todd Sibley won the 4 Stock track championship.

Two Fall specials remain on the DRT TRAK Racing schedule for the Davenport Speedway. The QC Dirt Classic will be September 8th and the Iowa Short Track Challenge September 22nd.
