Zrostlik Takes Spooktacular Victory

DAVENPORT, IA. (Oct. 14, 2006) - Joe Zrostlik of Long Grove, Iowa, captured his second Spooktacular crown Saturday at the Davenport Speedway.

The 4-Cylinder Stock driver passed 'Racin Ruben' Riley on lap ten to take the lead of the 30-lap main and then held off a charging John Flury late in the race for the win.

For the victory, Zrostlik earned a $1,000 payday. His other win came in the inaugural Spooktacular event in 2004.

Following Zrostlik to the checkers were Flury, Bryan Klein, Riley, and last year's winner Justin Kay. Forty-nine 4-Cylinder Stocks took part in the event.

Milo Veloz Jr., won the A-Modified in dramatic fashion. Veloz took the lead with a daring 4-wide pass, after a late race caution.

Ray Cox Jr., finished second after leading a majority of the race. Bob Dominacki finished third, with Jeff Morris fourth, and Marty Diercks fifth.

Street Stock driver Scott Pratt was second at last year's event, but moved up one place this time around. Pratt won the Street Stock main, which went non-stop green, white, checkered. Tim Koehler, Mike Shrope, and Jerry Merkes rounded out the top four.

Tim Current won a caution-filled B-Modified feature. Current managed to hold off Mitch Morris to take the win. Kelly Meyer, John Brandies, and Mike Fluegel were third through fifth respectively.

Rick Brokus collected his third straight Spooktacular win in the Hobby Stock division. Bryan Klein was second with Lavern Cole Jr., third.

Jeff Norton drove to victory in the Mod-Lite feature. Adam Oppendike finished second, with Tom Schnabel third.

The Illini Racing Series Midgets made their first visit to the Spooktacular and first appearance at the Davenport Speedway in ten years. When the checkers flew, Joe Knippel of Mokena, Ill., topped Tony Main of Indiana and sixteen other driver to grab the win. The race was the season finale for the IRS Midgets.

One hundred ninety-six drivers from five states took part in the third annual Spooktacular. The event is promoted by Brad Roelandt of the Quad Cities Racing Connection.
