I-30 Speedway Opens Season With Topless Modified Nationals
by: Lonnie Wheatley

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 5, 2007) – The 2007 racing season at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway opens with a bang this Friday and Saturday night as Coca Cola and Larry Shaw Race Cars present the Ninth Annual GRT Race Cars Topless Modified Nationals atop the high-banked, ¼-mile clay oval.

While a strong field of Topless Modifieds is expected to battle it out for the $7,000 winner's share, Sprint Cars will be in action both nights as well.

Local Sprint Car standout, Tim Crawley, enters the event bidding for a third consecutive Topless Modified Nationals triumph after victories in 2005 and 2006. He also topped both nights of Sprint Car racing action last year as well, another feat he will try to match this weekend.

The Topless Modifieds will battle through a Sprint Bandit-type format, similar to the format utilized at the track's famed Short Track Nationals each October. The top six finishers from Friday's feature event are locked into Saturday's $7,000 to win finale, with the balance of the field to be determined through Saturday's heats and qualifying races. Saturday's Ninth Annual GRT Race Cars Topless Modified Nationals pays $700 to start.

The Sprint Cars will battle through complete programs on both Friday and Saturday night, with $1,350 to win on both nights.

Drivers in both classes will receive 50 show-up points on both nights.

The Topless Modified Nationals is the first of several major events scheduled at I-30 Speedway in 2007, with others including the Second Annual 600 Micro Nationals on September 14-15, worth $10,000 to win, and the 20th Annual Short Track Nationals on October 25-27, which features a $20,000 winner's share.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday night, with racing action going green at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday. Those that save their Friday night ticket receive a $3 discount on Saturday. Admission for children ages 6-12 is just $1 on Friday and $2 on Saturday. Children five and under are admitted free. Pit passes are $25 on both nights.
