SMITH AND PINKERTON TAKE CHECKERS ON NIGHT#1 QUALIFYING NIGHT AT SOUTHERN IOWA SPEEDWAY IN OSKALOOSA FOR MUSCO GREAT AMERICAN STOCK CAR CHALLENGE

OSKALOOSA, Ia (June 12, 2006) - Night number one was held at the Southern Iowa Speedway for the 3rd Annual Great American Stock Car Stock Car Challenge presented by Musco Lighting of Oskaloosa along with Arnold Motor Supply,Mike`s Tire and Alignment and PBM Performance Products. A nice field of Casey`s General Stores USRA hobby stocks along with the USRA stock cars in action all trying to lock them selves in for the big show on Wednesday night with the stock car winner getting $5000 and hobby stock winner getting $1000 for the wins.

In the USRA hobby stock feature event Mitch Hovden of Decorah along with Steve Holthaus of Cresco leading the field to the green. Holthaus would take the early race lead and lead till lap ten of the eighteen lap event befor Dustin Smith of Lake City would take the topspot and lead the final eight laps and pickup the win. A good battle for the runnerup spot was between Grant Moline of Manson and Sigourney driver Nathan Wood battling for the second spot with only three laps remaining with Wood making the pass and taking second after starting sevententh with Moline in third and Jason Murray taking fourth after being a front runner battling for the lead several times during the early going. The fifth spot went to Devin Smith of Lake City the younger brother to feature winner Dustin Smith. The final qualification spot went to Brandon Toftee of webster City who worked his magic from twenty-second to take the final spot after running outside the top six till the last lap. These six drivers will battle tomorrow night, to decide how they will lineup on Wednesday night making up the inside six positions.

The USRA Stock Car feature was a thriller with three and sometimes four wide racing for the top six spot with Brian Edel of Oskaloosa would battle with Tom Schmitt of Independence for the race lead with Edel taking over the topspot on lap three and leadi till lap twenty-one laps before losing the lead to Brad Pinkerton who worked the bottom side of the speedway to take the lead and held off Edel the final four laps for the win. Pinkerton missed the redraw after finishing third in his heat making for a deep starting spot. Pinkerton worked his way from eighteenth to take the win. Edel settled for the second spot with rookie race Colt Mather of Webster taking third after battling early for the race lead. The fourth spot went to Bobby Greiner Jr. of Ottumwa who mixed it up several times for the tops three spot but settled for the fourth spot with another rookie driver Nathan Wood of Sigourney taking fourth after starting thirteenth and the hard charger of the race was the 34 machine of Pat Rachels of Knoxville taking sixth after starting twenty-third and beat Justin Temeyer of Independence at the line by just inches for the last qualifying spot.

Round two of the 3rd Annual Musco Lighting Great American Stock Car Challenge will take place tomorrow night with hot laps at 7:15pm and racing action to follow at 7:30 and this will decide the outside six positions for Wednesday nights big show at the Southern Iowa Speedway.
