RACHELS AND WOOD REPEAT WINNERS WITH MICHAEL BENNETT SCORING FIRST SOUTHERN IOWA SPEEDWAY CHECKERS ON GREINER BUILDINGS GREAT AMERICAN STOCK CAR SHOOTOUT

OSKALOOSA, IA (July 4, 2006) - The seveneth and final night of the Casey`s General Stores Great American Hobby Stock and Stock Car traveling series wrapped up at the place where it all started the big half-mile at the Southern Iowa Speedway for night number two of the Greiner Building Great American stock Car Shootout with six races and six diffrent winners in the USRA Hobby Stock Division and USRA Stock Car Division could it be a seventh diffrent winner in both classes or a repeat winner.

   The first feature of the night was the Musco Lighting USRA Modified feature event going eighteen laps with Michael Bennett of Des Moines taking the lead with Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon close behind. Pinkerton would try the outside line and make the pass going into turns three and four but the caution flag flew. On the restart Bennett protected the highside of the speedway leaving Pinkerton to try the lowside but Bennett would hold off Pinkerton and Zack VanderBeek for the win. This was Michael Bennetts first wina t the Southern Iowa Speedway and third ever feature win. Pinkerton and VanderBeek would battle for the second spot with Zack taking second off turn four coming to the checkers with Pinkerton in third and the young racer from Washington Brandon Banks taking the fourth spot after starting in the thirtenth starting spot.

    In the second feature of the evening the USRA Hobby Stock feature Chase Mitrisin of Oskaloosa redrawed the pole position with Bill Gibson of Knoxville redrawing the second spot and the two drivers lead the field to the green for the eighteen lap main event for $700 on the line.  Mitrisin would lead the field into turn one but Jason VanZomeren of Oskaloosa would take the lead and lead the first six laps and looked to be headed to his first ever feature win. The caution flag would fly closing the field up with Bobby Greene of Eddyville and Nathan Wood of Sigourney on the back bumper of the 3Z machine. On the restart Wood would pass VanZomeren for the lead going into turn one and would cruise to the checkers picking up his fiftenth feature win and the $700 payday. The second spot would goto Shannon Sherwood of Oskaloosa who won the feature the night before with VanZomeren taking his best finish of the year in third and Green in fourth. Wood was the only repaeat winner in the seven straight nights of racing scoring the win at the Scoutland County Speedway in Memphis,Mo on Saturday night and reapeating on the fourth of July. The drivers to race all seven nights was Ottumwa driver Mike Shelton and Bill Gibson of Knoxville.

   The final feature of the night was the Greiner Buildings USRA Great American Stock Car Shootout gunning for the $2000 prize money. Steve Jackson would shootout to the race lead and would work the highside of the racing surface with Bert McDaniel Jr. of Eldon running second on the rear bumper and Pat Rachels of Knoxville in third. The three drivers would follow each other around the half-mile and on lap eighteen of the twenty0five lap main event Steve Jackson would get over the cushion and make contact with the wall in turns one and two with McDaniel and Rachels slipping under Jackson for the lead. Rachels would take the lead from McDaniel off turn two and pilot the Long John Silvers,Pro-line Buildings and Sharky Frame number 34 to vitory lane for the win and picking up the $2000 payday. McDaniel took second with Jackson in third and Bobby Greiner Jr. of Ottumwa taking fourth. The seven straight nights saw eight drivers start out running all seven night but at the end only these five drivers run all seven night. Steve Jackson,Colt Mather,Tom Scmitt,T.J.Criss and Bobby Greiner Jr. and we have to respect them for all the hard work and traveling they put into this series.
