PEPSI COLA SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS CAP OFF 2007 SEASON
By: Tony Paris

OSKALOOSA, IA (Aug 31) - Racing action at the Southern Iowa Speedway resumed after a three week layoff the action was as exciting as the first week. The Casey’s General Stores USRA Weekly Racing Series with all four classes in action and drivers battling for the crowns. All but one class was decided on the track. The crowns went to Jason McDaniel in the USRA Hobby Stock, USRA Stock Car crown went to Matt Greiner with USRA B-modified went to Brett Moffitt and Musco Lighting USRA A-modified title went to Brandon Banks.

In the USRA Stock Car feature win went to the Colt Mather who held off Brad Pinkerton who took the second spot with Matt Greiner taking third and fourth going to Zack Vanderbeek. The USRA B-modifieds saw Brett Moffitt take the win over Cory Brown by less than three inches. Brown took the lead from the 27 of Ken Bryant of Ottumwa on the four lap and looked like Brown was on his way to his first ever win but Moffitt would give Brown a bump coming off four to lossen up the 98 giving Moffitt a chance at the win. Both drivers raced to the line with Moffitt taking the win and the championship followed by Brwon in second and Mike Wanders in third. The fourth spot went to Paul Underwood and Ronnie Pumphrey in fifth.

In the USRA Hobby Stock feature Danny Thrasher of Agency took the green flag and the checkers but had several challenges along with a red flag for Jared Sanders, Tyler Ford and Jason McDaniel all involved in a crash with Sanders car flipping several time behind the third turn fencing. All drivers were alright with McDaniel getting his car repaired and raced his way from the back to fourth and enough to take the championship. Don Nunnikhoven and Dustin Griffiths battled for the second spot with Nunnikhoven in second and Griffiths in third.

The final feature of the night was the MUSCO Lighting USRA A-modifieds with Zack Vanderbeek taking the lead and looked to have a nice size lead but Brad Pinkerton found the high line and took the lead but the racing action would stop for a oil fire when Vanderbeeks motor let go in turns one and two. Pinkerton held off Ron Verbeek who took second followed by Colt Mather in third and female racer Allison Quick in fourth. The championship went to Brandon Banks of Washington who finished eleventh.

The final two night to round out the 2007 season will be Friday and Saturday September 14th and 15th with the sixteenth annual Fall Challenge so mark your calendars and look for the Southern Iowa Speedway preview coming up in the next couple of weeks.
