NUNNIKHOVEN, GIBSON, VANDERBEEK AND MATHER TAKE SOUTHERN IOWA SPEEDWAY CHECKERS

By: Tony Paris

OSKALOOSA, IA (August 20) -  Racing action at the Southern Iowa Speedway was sponsored by Re-Elect Paul DeGeest for Sheriff of Mahaska County with another nice field of cars along with loyal race fans. The Casey’s General Stores USRA weekly racing series is starting to come to a close with only one more regular point race next Wednesday night.

The USRA hobby stock feature saw Don Nunnikhoven of Kellogg take the win in the back-up car after a couple of weeks ago he destroyed his primary car and had to drag the old car out of the weeds and made it payoff. Jason McDaniel last weeks feature winner tried several time to put the pass on but settled for the runner-up spot with Danny Thrasher taking third and Rose Hill driver Shannon Sherwood in fourth.

The MUSCO Lighting USRA A-Modifieds saw Ron VerBeek of Oskaloosa take the lead and pace the field till caution would fly on lap fourteen of the eighteen lap event. On the restart Zack Vanderbeek would make the pass after coming from the eleventh starting spot after changing motors when motor problems developed under the hood in the heat race. The hard work form the crew and everyone involved in the team made it payoff. VerBeek took the second spot with Brad Pinkerton in third and last weeks winner Colt Mather in fourth.

The Carter International and Karl Chevrolet USRA B-Modifieds saw Brian Edel and Bill Gibson battle for the lead just like the points battle with only five points separating the two drivers this will make for a great season Championship night next week. Gibson took the win with Mike Shelton in second and last weeks winner Andrew Schroeder in third and Edel in fourth.

The Karl Chevrolet USRA Stock Car feature saw Corey Stout of Oskaloosa lead the first seven laps before Colt Mather would make the pass and go onto win the feature. Nathan Wood would race his way from thirteenth starting spot to come home second. The third spot went to Stout and fourth went to current point leader and last weeks feature winner Matt Greiner.

Next Week’s action will be Pepsi-Cola Season Championships with the awards banquet to be held after the crowning of the track champions.
