HOT TEMPS AND HOT ACTION AT SOUTHERN IOWA SPEEDWAY
By: Tony Paris

OSKALOOSA, IOWA (July 14) - With temperatures in the nineties the action was just as hot on the track with the Casey’s general Stores USRA weekly racing series at the Southern Iowa Speedway with all four classes in action sponsored by Eric Palmer for State Representative. The weather threatened to the west of the speedway but all four events went really well with very few cautions and done before nine forty five.

The first feature was the Karl Chevrolet USRA stock cars with Nathan Wood of Keswick and Mike Vangendren of Newton going wheel-to-wheel and swapping the lead and going all out for the win. It would thrill the crowd and bring them to there feet with Wood making the run to the inside of Vangendren payoff at the finish line by a fender. Vangendren would take a close runner-up spot with Kyle Harwood of Osky and first time visitor David Denham of Kahoka, Mo in fourth.

The USRA hobby stock feature would be a wild one on and off the track. The 22R of Todd Reitzler of Grinnell would cross the finishline in first but would later be disqualified due to ported cylinder heads. The driver from Eldon Craig Brown would finish second but would be given the win after the disqualification and first ever win at Osky. The third spot would goto Kris Walker of Osky taking third but would take the second spot. With the fourth spot going to Don Nunnikhoven of  Sully but would later be disqualified due to ported cylinder heads so this would give Derek Kirkland of Centerville in third and Andrew Hustead of Colony, Mo in fourth.

The MUSCO lighting USRA a-mods saw Colt Mather take the lead and never look back. Colt would lead all eighteen laps for the win. The second spot went to Greg Cox of Altoona who was celebrating his birthday and took the runner-up spot. The third spot went to Scott Dickey of Packwood and Steven Blattler of Osky in fourth.

In the final feature of the night Carter Manufacturing USRA B-mods with Jason McDaniel of Eldon taking the lead and would have to deal with two cautions and restarts and would take his first visit to victory lane in 2010. In the tech area the second place finisher Cayden Carter of Osky and Mike Shelton of Ottumwa being disqualified due to rear gears having a full spool. This would give Carter Vandenberg of Osky second with Bill Gibson of Knoxville in third and Mike Wanders of Keswick in fourth. Next weeks action will be KBOE Radio presents the Deery Bros IMCA Late Models @ the Southern Iowa Fair plus USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA RHS Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks.
